EPISODE FIVE

1831 Words
I woke up with a loud gasp. It was the same dream as every other day. A dream of three flying dragons spitting fire and a purple-eyed boy. There was always blood everywhere and the dream ended with the boy's death. I controlled my breathing, snuggling under the sheets. The bed was warm and the sheets smelt like lavender and apples. My eyes flickered open. The sunlight trickling through the thin white curtains gave the room a serene look. A huge glass window gave me the perfect view of the city. It was beautiful. I stretched on the bed as memories slowly made their way to my conscious mind. I was in Soren’s penthouse. Breathing deeply, I observed my surroundings. The room was huge. It was a minimalist designed room with white walls, an upholstered platform bed with soft black sheets and of course, a huge window. A seventeen-year-old lived this life. I sighed and tossed the sheets aside, rubbing my eyes. Shit! My mum. “CAN I KISS YOU?” “GO TO SLEEP ADALIA. I’LL LET YOUR MUM KNOW YOU’RE SAFE” I groaned, clutching my head in my hands. What was I thinking last night? Can I kiss you? Can I kiss you? Really? Aysa had ghosted me and here I was, hallucinating about him. Mirthwood. It was mirthwood's fault but who put it in my drink? I dragged my stupid self into the kitchen after a quick shower. There were a few shirts in the closet. I didn’t think he’d mind if I stole one. It was his fault I drank mirthwood anyway. Soren was in the kitchen. He wore a round-neck white shirt and grey sweatpants. “What? No school today?” I asked, checking my phone. Nothing. Completely nothing. Aysa had totally ghosted me. “Catch” Soren threw a green juicy apple my way. I thanked him and took a big bite. “It’s 10am” he smirked. “Well f**k. Why didn’t you wake me up?” “I did. You tried to assault me”he smiled. "you’re bluffing” I rolled my eyes. “You called me Aysa. Whoever that is,” he said quietly. My jaw dropped. That didn’t sound like me. Aysa was driving me crazy. Soren burst into laughter. “You’re easy” I threw the apple I was munching on at his head. He moved out of the way easily and it landed in the sink. "But it is true. You mentioned his name a lot," Soren muttered, forcing a smile."Who is he?" “None of your concern and don’t make a habit of teasing me” I scowled, taking a seat behind the counter. "Too late” he muttered, placing a plate of bacon and eggs with toast in front of me. He grabbed a pitcher and filled a glass with orange juice for me. “Thank you” I whispered. After I had filled my stomach, Soren did the dishes and refused all my efforts to help. We settled in the living room as curiosity gnawed at me. “The mirthwood?” I asked. “It was the chef. He’s a friend of my father’s. He thought he was helping.” Soren answered. “Helping? What does mirthwood do?" I frowned. "You should have paid attention to were studies.” “Just tell me” Soren turned off the tv and angled his body towards me. "Mirthwood is a type of alcohol for werewolves. It helps us loosen up. Gives us a high. While we are drunk on it, we are fearless , reckless” he tugged me towards him and I fell into his lap, straddling him. “It gives us more stamina and lots of dutch courage” he placed his hands beneath my thigh. My breathing became heavier as I stared into his green eyes. They were purple yesterday. Last night, I saw Aysa, not him. It was Aysa I wanted to kiss. “He thought you were my date. I’ve avoided dates for a while now. Mirthwood also increases our lust and s****l drive and for humans, the feelings and effects are multiplied. That’s why you said what you said last night” his grip tightened. “Felt what you felt”. I jumped off his thighs. Creep! He was not Aysa, last night had been an illusion. “Grip will take you home. He’s at the door. You can keep the shirt too and my boxers. I know you’re wearing them beneath those sweatpants” he eyed me. “What?" I snapped. "It’s not as if I planned on going commando” “Of course” he smiled teasingly. “I told you not to make a habit of it” I complained, slamming the door on my way out. It was lunchtime when I got home. Mum was seated on my bed. She hadn't noticed me yet. Her back was to me as she faced the window. “Mum?” I called softly. She patted the spot beside her, I reluctantly joined her on the bed. The small window overlooked the neighbour's house. Beyond the neighbour's house was the woods. Tall pine trees with brown leaves that turned white during winter and green during spring. Magic had changed everything. “He brought you back safely” she sighed. "He said he would. Who would have ever thought that the daughter of Emma Rosebourne would be caught with a werewolf” she scoffed but there was no malice. “Mum...it was his condition_____” “I know” she cut me off. " he explained everything to me. You’re a good daughter” she stroked my hair affectionately. I leaned into her touch. “Everything I do and say, it’s for your own good. I hope you know that” mum whispered. “My beautiful Alphy” she kissed my cheek and left me in the silence. The next day started off with a big bang. My alarm rang an hour late and my car broke down so I had to trek to school. I missed two classes and Aysa didn't show up to school. “You don’t look too good. Is it the dreams?” Brady asked. I shut my locker hard and she flinched at the sound. "Yes," I nodded. It wasn't just the dreams, it was Aysa too. Why hadn't he been to school and why was he ignoring me? Come to think of it, I hadn't had a sleepwalking episode since the night in the woods with Aysa. "Well. You better keep that a secret. Anyone finds out you're dreaming about dragons and witches and you're dead" "I know. Anything related to witchcraft even a stupid dream is punishable by death," I recited. “You missed school yesterday and so did Prince Soren” Brady smiled. “Prince Soren?" I raised a brow "What? You’re on first-name basis with him?” “Yes. Yes, I am.” I hooked my arm with hers and explained everything as we walked to history class. During lunchtime in the cafeteria, Toby plopped into the seat next to me, his face forlorn. “Where’s Carl?” I asked, searching around the cafeteria for any signs of him. "Scraping gum from the classroom tables. He missed his third history assignment this month" Toby muttered, rolling his eyes. “What happened between you and lover boy, Soren?" Leah asked as she sat beside Toby. "Nothing” I replied. It was nothing. For some reason, Soren made me angry and a little disgusted. Brady rushed to take the empty seat in front of me, scaring me to death. Where did she come from? “Soren is gorgeous. I would totally do him,” Brady winked, popping a fry into her mouth. “Really Brady? Really” Leah scolded. “What!" Brady shrugged. "He’s definitely into Alphea” Toby hummed, a teasing grin on his face. My face heated up at his statement. Leah reached over me to smack Toby's head. “I mean he did let you sleep in his bed” Brady persisted. "You slept in his bed?” Toby's jaw dropped. He swiped the only apple from my tray. “Toby. I love apples” I whined, fingering the remaining food on my tray. “All the better for me” he smiled. Leah was still scowling at me. Her gaze was literally burning holes in my face. “Fine. I’ll give you details” I gave in, her face lit up like a Christmas tree as she drew closer to hear everything. Leah and Brady had detention after school and I wanted to go home badly. I had to start working on my English homework. I was almost out of the school gates when a man in a suit stepped into my line of vision and grabbed me. He covered my head with a sack and threw me over his shoulders. I panicked, struggling against him. Soon, I was dumped on a soft surface and I pulled the sack off my head. My hair was messy and my face was moist with sweat. A pale-looking boy with dark curls and dark eyes to match stared at me with disinterest. Like I was an ant who had found it’s way into his cream and all he wanted to do was squash it. “This is her?” he looked disappointed. "Yes,” his goon replied. The boy hummed, a glimmer of interest shining in his eyes. I was beyond pissed now. “Listen jerk face. I don’t appreciate you and dumb in a suit over there k********g me. If you want something f*****g say it and stop talking like I’m not here" I panted. The corner of his lip lifted briefly. "She has a very colourful choice of words” he observed. The big dumb goon nodded in agreement. “She’s very violent too” I hissed before whacking him across the head with a vase from the corner of the couch. I dashed out without looking back and run towards the entrance. Something moved fast from the corner of my eye and slammed into me. I grunted, standing to my feet, seething. The pale boy stood before me, his curls were all over the place. “You should know your place” he spat, pointing a finger at me. His eyes were glowing an angry gold colour. Vampire. He was a vampire. Oh, so what! He was just a big mosquito. "And you should respect my space” I hissed right back. “Are you just dumb or do you not know who I am?” he frowned. “Are you just stupid or can you not see that I do not want to know who you are?” “You’re free to go. Don’t go fighting any other higher breed” he warned and disappeared in a gush of air. I would do what I damn well pleased.
