Lyra looked at Xander who was looking at her with a blank stare and furrowed brows. She realized Xander didn’t understand her. She smiled. However, her eyes were dull.
“I mean I want to return to my former pack to get some things,” she said, looking down at her hands.
Xander looked at Lyra with an unfocused gaze. He was thinking about something. Lyra knew if she were Xander it wouldn’t make sense to her either. She prayed Xander would be trusting enough to let her leave.
Xander nodded, his gaze focused, “Alright. But before you leave, I need to mark you as my mate.”
Lyra’s brows furrowed. She didn’t know he would ask her to be marked so soon. She still needed time to process all of it. But the more she thought about it, she realized it would work in her favor.
When Liam sees she’s free and mated to someone else so soon, she knew it would drive him crazy. The first step to getting revenge on him.
Lyra wanted Liam to feel every bit of the pain he caused her.
“Okay,” Lyra agreed without an argument.
Looking at Liam, Lyra found his eyes brows to be raised, his mouth forming an ‘O’. Xander hadn’t expected Lyra to agree so quickly. Soon, Liam regained his faceless expression.
His eyes roamed Lyra’s body, “You still need some rest. I'll mark you when you are properly healed,” he said and left the room.
Lyra still needed her rest. Mating her right there would take a lot of her strength.
Three days later, Lyra was in better health. She walked into Xander’s room as per their agreement that noon.
That noon, Lyra had met with Xander and they agreed to proceed with the mating process later in the day. After the first day they met, Lyra hardly met Xander again until he came to her that morning to tell her of the mating process.
She knew he always comes at night to check in on her because his smell is always all over her room when she wakes up.
The sound from the door made Lyra look up. Xander walked in, holding eyes contact. For a brief moment, Lyra saw desire flicker in his eyes. But it left as soon as it came.
Xander walked leisurely into the room and sat on the bed beside Lyra.
“You don’t need to be tense. It will only hurt a bit,” Xander said when his eyes fell on Lyra’s tensed shoulders.
Lyra nodded and gulped audibly. She averted her gaze. Her first experience with the mating process wasn’t a pleasant one with Liam. He had been so rough with her because he was drunk during the night of the mating process.
She felt a hand on her hand and looked down. Xander was holding her hand, drawing little circles on it.
“Trust me,” he said softly.
Looking up into Xander’s eyes, Lyra felt warmth envelope her. She bit her lips again but decided to trust him this time.
He held Lyra’s waist as softly he turned her neck to him.
Sucking on the spot to make it tender, Lyra’s palms got clammy with sweat as her heart beat erratically fast. There was so much electric pleasure racking through her. She didn’t understand why.
Without warning, Lyra felt Xander’s fang pierce her neck. She let out a scream. But soon, the pain turned into pleasure. The mate bond snapping into place.
Lyra felt better. She realized it’s the mate bond working already.
Xander released Lyra, his hand lingering on her waist before he let go.
Lyra realized a breath as she created some distance between them. “I’ll mark you when I get back from my pack,” Lyra said as she created some space between Xander and her.
Xander nodded, “when will you be leaving?”
“Tomorrow morning. I need to get there early,” Lyra said and noticed Xander’s face fell.
“I don’t trust your former pack members. I’ll give my best guards to go with you,” he said.
And that was exactly what he did even after Lyra tried to protest.
As Lyra stared at the pack house she had stayed all her life, she was hit with unpleasant memories. She only wanted to get her old things, and some of her mother’s things as well.
If possible, she shouldn’t run into Liam. But as soon as she stepped her feet into the pack house, she met Liam sitting in the living room. On his lap was Aliyah smiling and laughing brightly.
None of them noticed her. A chill came on Lyra’s heart. They were having so much fun in her absence. This is what they wanted all along.
“Luna,” one of the pack members greeted Lyra with a bow of his head.
His voice attracted the attention of Liam and Aliyah and who turned their head towards Lyra. The pack house was silent only, with four pack members roaming around. Lyra knew the rest were probably on the training grounds.
Lyra smiled at the pack members and proceeded to walk off. But Liam’s voice stopped her.
“I see you had the nerve to come back here after you escaped,” he sneered at her, as Aliyah stood up from his lap, the cookies forgotten on the table.
“I didn’t come here for you,” Lyra said, her voice dripping with coldness and hatred.
“I’m here to take my things and that of my mother’s. Then leave you to your blissful life,” Lyra continued.
Liam burst into a heartily laugh. With his eyes, he signaled the pack members to give them some privacy.
Soon, it was just Lyra, Aliyah and Liam in the room.
“You must be delusional to think I would willingly let you leave. Tell me where you’ve been. Maybe I would make your punishment lighter,” Liam walked towards Lyra, his lips raised in a smirk.
Seeing Liam walking like a predator towards her, from the corner of her eyes, Lyra saw Xander’s guards who stood outside walk in towards her.
Her gaze was still on Liam. She saw him stop mid step. His eyes took in the guards before coming back to her, his jaw going slack.
Aliyah looked at the scene, her expression mirroring Liam’s. She went closer to Liam, glaring hard at Lyra.
However, Lyra kept mute. Waiting for Liam to stop his foolery so she could get what she came here for and leave.
Liam scoffed. His eyes rested on Lyra’s neck and hardened. Lyra smirked. She knew Liam had noticed the mate mark. She wished he could feel the same amount of pain she felt. Even if it’s a little percentage of it.
“What are you doing with Alexander’s guards?” Aliyah asked with hate, dripping from her words.
Liam looked closely and noticed it as well. He paused momentarily before he burst out laughing.
“Here I thought you had hit the jackpot by mating with someone else. But it’s only Alexander. Once he finds out you’ve been mates before, he will abandon you without a second thought.”
“Not everyone is as heartless as you!” Lyra spat. She was done with talking with Liam and Aliyah.
She walked off without waiting for a response from them. Her mood had gone from a twenty to a zero just by taking with Liam. She needed to get out of here fast. The more time she spent here, the sour her mood gets.
Lyra got to her old room. And got to packing her important things.
“Lyra! Where have you been?” Vivian appeared at the doorway of Lyra’s former room.
Hearing her name, Lyra turned around and sees her best friend. She can’t believe she haven’t spoken to Vivian for days.
Vivian ran into the room and enveloped Lyra in a hug.
“Did that bastard hurt you again?” Vivian asked when she disengaged from the hug.
Only Vivian was aware of how Liam treats Lyra.
Lyra shook her head. She only just realized how much she missed Vivian. Vivian had been the only person who cared for her in the pack.
“I don’t have the time right now. I’ll explain everything on the phone,” Lyra hastily wrote down her number on a piece of paper and squeezed it on Vivians hand.
Vivian’s brow furrowed, “On call? What’s going on Lyra, and why are you with Alpha Alexander’s guards?”
“Like I said, I don’t have the time to explain…”
Vivian gasped loudly, stopping Lyra mid sentence. Her eyes were glued to Lyra’s neck.
“Is that a new mating mark? Oh my goodness, are you mated to Alpha Alexander?!”
Lyra nodded, busy placing some clothes in a duffel bag.
“Is he your second chance mate? And where is your baby? Did Alpha Alexander know you have a child?” Vivian asked.
She continued, “Alpha Alexander can’t know you have a child or you’ve been mated before.”
Lyra frowned and stopped placing clothes in the bag. She looked at Vivian.
“Why?”
