CHAPTER 5

Scarlet's POV. I stood at the doorway watching the way Kai looked at Ellie. After his abrupt proposal yesterday, I had asked for time to think about it, but to be honest, there isn't much to think about. Although he had said it with a smile on his face, I knew he wasn't joking about going to court for full custody. The Falcones were rich enough to even make the law bend to their will. But what I did not expect was to actually see him here, so early in the morning. Has he perhaps gotten the result of the DNA test? “It came out positive.” He said, as if reading my mind. “So does this mean you will give her your bone marrow?” It may sound like a foolish question, but Kai was a hard man to read, and judging from my own experience, not every father was willing to go under the knife or needle for their child. My dad most certainly would not. “She is so tiny.” His eyes softened as he added, “So perfect.” I smiled and walked towards him. “You know, when the nurse first gave her to me, she was so little, and I was scared I was going to hurt her.” “What is she like?” I turned my gaze to Kai, surprised at how soft he had spoken. His eyes remained on Ellie, but for some reason, I had a feeling he was concentrated on breath. “She is smart.” He chuckled, “Just like me.” I rolled my eyes and continued, “She is also inquisitive. She talks a lot; she's very bossy for a three-and-a-half-year-old, and she loves the rain. She is also allergic to nuts.” Kai raised his brow and turned to me. “She got that from you?” I nodded, suddenly feeling ashamed that I had given my daughter a weakness. "Sorry," I muttered, avoiding his gaze. “She is perfect, Scarlet. An allergy doesn't change that.” My lips parted, but before I could say anything, the doctor arrived. “How is our precious angel doing today?” He asked, walking forward to check on Ellie. “Is it normal that she hasn't woken up since last night?” I asked. Last night, Ellie had woken up for a brief moment, but I barely fed her before she lost consciousness again. “She is fine. Her body is just too weak to stay conscious for a long time.” The doctor replied and then glanced at Kai. “The test results are out, and congratulations, because you are a perfect match for your daughter.” I turned to Kai in surprise. ”When did you…” “I had done the test before coming to see her.” “So Kai is a match? Does that mean Ellie is going to get better?” The doctor nodded. “Your daughter is going to be perfectly fine. I have already asked the nurse to prepare the surgery room; the sooner we do this, the better for your little girl.” I let out a breath of relief, and without thinking, I pulled him into a hug. “Thank you. Thank you so much.” I didn't even know when the tears started, but I couldn't stop them as they flowed down my cheek. Throughout the night, I had wondered how I would survive if Kai wasn't a match as well. I knew Ellie didn't have much time despite the doctor sugarcoating it, and I honestly didn't see a life without my daughter. I cried as I finally let go of my fear, and surprisingly, Kai let me. After a while, he pulled me from him with a frown, “You look ugly when you cry.” I stared at him in disbelief and immediately wiped away my tears. How can a person be so mean? Kai ignored my glare and faced the doctor. “Let's begin.” Kai followed the doctor, and a few minutes later, a nurse came and took Ellie away. The operation lasted for just two hours before the doctor came out, and before he said it, I knew it was successful. “In a few hours, Ellie will be fully conscious.” He said, taking off his surgical mask. “What about Kai? Is he going to be alright?” "Mr. Falcone just needs a lot of rest, but apart from that, he is perfectly fine.” “They will both be taken to a normal ward, and then you can see them.” He added. I nodded. “Thank you, Doctor." I decided to see Ellie first, and after talking to her and showering her with my kisses, I went to Kai because I knew he was awake, but to my surprise, Alex was already in his room, reporting something to him, and for a while, I just stared at how good Kai looked even in a hospital dress. They both froze when I stepped inside, and Alex suddenly went silent. “Good thing you are here. Alex, hand her the papers.” Alex, who had once looked at me coldly, slightly bowed before handing me the papers. I glance at both of them suspiciously before looking down at the paper. Rules to obey when married. Raising my brow at Kai, I asked “What is this?” Kai turned to Alex with a frown. “You said she was a university dropout; shouldn't she be able to read?" I clenched my fist as I gritted out each word, “I do know how to read, Mr. Falcone. However, I do not understand why you are giving me this.” “In less than twenty-four hours, you will be my wife, but before then, I want you to understand the rules that will be guiding our marriage.” Is he serious? “I will be your wife, not your employee.” “Just read the damn rules, Scarlet.” Kai groaned as he adjusted slightly on his bed. I looked down on the paper again and read his rules. The first rule was to not fall in love with him. I almost scoffed when I read it. What woman in her right mind would fall in love with such a rude man? The second was to avoid confrontations with his family. The third was that we would sleep in the same bed and act like we were in love in public. And the fourth and final, the one that almost made my legs weak, was that we could have mind-blowing s*x whenever and wherever.
