Chapter - 6

Sussan then hurriedly walked away from the border wall while pulling David’s hands to go deep into the desert. “David, I am feeling awful and could sense that something is definitely going to go wrong. We need to reach Brenda sooner and let her know about Robert and Nameless. If they do not realize the mistake sooner, both the kids will be in a terrible state. Let us warn them and be prepared. Hurry!” She spoke in a rushed manner as the time was limited to them. She could not let anyone else die anymore. The war had taken away the lives of more than half of their people. Sussan gripped David’s hand and rushed towards their campsite ignoring the fact that they had all already left that place long ago. David quickly pulled her back and stopped her from going forward. He then shouted at her,  “Sussan, stop! Just stop! Even Peter is in danger and if we could rush through the newly created portal then we can save all of them. If I am not wrong, they could have not crossed the desert on the other end yet. So, if we hurry through the portal Robert created then we could catch them and bring them back.” Sussan stared at David and let go of his hands. She then glanced at the tiny portal which was almost unstable and said, “We cannot shrink ourselves to the size of the portal, unlike the hygelnewl plants. Our only best choice right now is to find Robert’s Brother Nameless. Like his brother, he too must have powers to create such portals. We could ask him to direct us to where Robert and Peter are! Since their body and soul are linked to one another, I think Nameless could find Robert faster than us.” David looked dejected and he felt powerless. Only if he was a little brave and searched for Elly that day, then they all could have long left this horrible planet and went to Asran. They could have lived over there but as Elly was stuck here, neither Peter nor Sussan was ready to get away from this stinky planet. After noticing that David was depressed, Sussan kissed him on his cheeks and said, “I am sorry. I know all these incidents are making us feel helpless and upset but trust me, Nameless could easily find our son and Robert. All I want is for our family to be happy and united. It may seem like everything is out of our hands right now but trust me I will make sure to bring everyone together.” “Really? Then why did you say earlier that you will set me free once you find Peter and Elly? Is that what our marriage means to you? Do you still feel nothing towards me?” David questioned her. Sussan did not answer his question and just stared at the vast desert. David let out a sad smile and said, “Don’t worry Sussan, I will always be with you, even if you push me away. I will never leave you. Even if I die, my soul would always be roaming around you and protect our family. Whatever difficult situations we may face, I, David, promise you that I will bring our family together, even if I lose my life in the process,” He proclaimed. He then closed his eyes and brought his raw power together. He tried to use it to communicate with Sommer to let Brenda know what happened. But then he could not get a clear wavelength as his powers were still not enough. “What happened?” Sussan worriedly asked him. “I couldn’t connect with Sommer… It looks like my powers are still not enough and I may need to practice more.” David shook his head in disappointment and informed her. “First, let’s go back to the campsite. I have an old device in our tent which we could use to send a message. Let’s check if we get it to work after going there,” Sussan told him. Just when they were about to reach the campsite, they saw Brenda rushing towards them with fainted Nameless in her hands. Brenda placed Nameless inside the tent and cried a lot. She was feeling guilty for abandoning her best friend when she was in need of help. She did not speak immediately and Sussan did not force her to say anything. Instead, Sussan let her cry while she examined Nameless’s body. Even though he looked fine from the outside, the temperature on his body is severely rising. Sussan took out several wet patches from inside her medical kit and out all over Nameless’s body. Brenda somehow controlled her tears and said, “I am so sorry… I know, I am not a good friend and I was selfish earlier. Because of this war, I think I must have lost my mind too. Sussan, I beg you… Please ask David to save Robert. He is a physician and only he can save him. Please Sussan... please… I beg you. I would even allow Robert to help you find Peter if he can get well.” Brenda fell on her knees and wailed while holding Sussan. Sussan sighed and patted her back. From her conversation, she understood that Brenda still did not find out about Nameless and Robert. “Brenda, relax. I fear the one you are holding right now is not Robert but his twin brother Nameless,” Sussan told her and gave her the shock of her life. “What? How is that possible? Robert doesn’t have a twin brother,” Brenda lifted her head and looked at Sussan with troubled eyes. “Do you know the history of the Collwalt family? I thought you were aware of the heredity that the women of their family always conceive twins but only one will be born.” Sussan informed her. “What nonsense are you talking about? It was just a myth and I conceived only one son and he is Robert,” Brenda pointed at Nameless and said. “Brenda…” Sussan tried to explain to her but Brenda waved her hands to stop her from speaking any longer. “I understand your anger… I know, when David came to ask for help from my son, I did not allow it and sent him away. Listen, I know I made a mistake and I am ready to apologize how many times you want me to… But right now, ask David to save my son. I will even give my life to you in return,” Brenda announced and made Sussan at the loss of words. Sussan opened her mouth and closed but no words came out of her mouth. When Brenda saw her expressionless face, she thought Sussan was not going to help her. So, she hugged Nameless tightly and her heart hurt a lot. “I am sorry, baby… As your mother acted heartless before, now I could not even force my friend to save you… I am just useless,” Brenda cursed at her helplessness and shed tears while wailing loudly. “Brenda, enough! I understand that you are feeling bad for Nameless…” Sussan tried to explain once again but this time, Brenda glared at her and muttered, “My son is not nameless. He has a birth name and his name is Robert!”  “Alright, fine. Let’s just say that he is Robert… Then how do you explain this pouch that we found near the border?” Sussan asked Brenda and shoved the pouch Linda found in her hand. Brenda examined the pouch in her palm and confidently said, “It must have fallen when we left the border a few days ago.” “Are you sure? Because the stones inside the pouch look fresh and those were definitely broken today from the flying rocks to test the stability of the newly created portal. The same old way our ancestors used to check when they manually create any portal,” Sussan stated. Brenda blinked her eyes and then stared at her son who was lying on her lap. She then glanced at the flying stones inside the pouch and took a deep breath. She didn’t want to believe Sussan but the heavy pouch in her hands did not allow her to disbelieve her. If the myth is really true and Robert did have a twin brother then that doesn’t mean they both don’t have much time left to live? She swiftly lifted her head and asked Sussan, “What should we do now?” “There is a new portal created near the border and we think it is done by Robert," David told her.
