Abigail's pov
Why is today Monday? I don't really want to go to work but I have no choice. I took a sick leave last week, and now it's over.
I actually had two jobs, but I quit one of them two weeks back, so now I need to put my all in this one left.
I stood up from the bed and stretched while looking around the room. I really love this apartment.
It was a one room apartment with a bathroom and kitchen. It wasn't large but it could contain all my belongings so it's good enough. The walls were painted light blue, which I love. I did a bit of interior decorating to give it a bit of life. I also saved enough money and got a cute black sofa, which I placed at the other end of the room.
I walked into the bathroom to get ready. The bathroom walls were tiled halfway with pretty deep blue and white tiles to match the light blue wall.
I quickly took my shower, brushed my teeth and got ready to put on my uniform, and a pair of trousers, grabbed my bag, and went out. I made sure to lock the door and jogged down the stairs since my room was on the first floor. The whole building had three floors, the roof being the last floor.
I still had about 30 minutes to get to work, so I decided to save money and just walk. If I walk really fast, I should get there in the next 20 minutes.
While I was walking really fast, a random lady hit me, and my bag fell down with all the things in it flying out. I let out a frustrated sigh. The lady didn't even bother to apologize; she just kept on walking and talking on her phone call.
I was already in a bad mood this morning, and now this. I bent to quickly pack everything back and decided to sprint the rest of the way.
I got to work just in time. I was a bit out of breath and decided to cool down a bit outside the shop before entering.
I entered the shop and immediately heard a loud scream. I had to close my ears. I already knew who that was.
“Oh my gosh, I missed you so much, Abbey,” Brittany said as she hugged me.
“Thank you,” I replied simply because I didn't know how else to react.
I don't really like interacting with people unless necessary and I've tried to stick to that but since I've started working here, Brittany always talks to me even when I show no interest and initiates physical contact like hugs.
I once tried explaining to her that I didn't like hugs, but she never listens, so I eventually got used to it and her generally. She is probably the closest person I can call a friend.
“So? How are you feeling? I didn't know why you took a leave. I just came to work one day and saw you weren't here. I asked the boss and she said you called to take a leave but I found it strange because you never take leave from work so I concluded you were probably very sick.”
I just stared at her as she kept on rambling about how she tried to call me many times, but it kept saying unavailable. I actually switched off my phone throughout that week because I needed time alone without distractions.
“I'm okay, Britt, thank you,” I said, forcing a smile.
Brittany is someone who I find annoying most times, but I've grown attached to it. I didn't want her to worry about me.
She looked at me as if trying to confirm if what I said was true. She then shrugged and said okay. We both went to our places behind the counter and sat down.
I looked around the shop and didn't see anyone. This isn't strange. We rarely have customers, and even when we do, they are usually between five to ten. I guess it will be an extra slow day, which I'm grateful for. I just wanted to sit peacefully and think.
“We don't have customers yet, which gives me enough time to update you on everything that happened while you were on leave,” Britt said excitedly.
And there goes my peace, I thought to myself. I just rolled my eyes and let her keep talking even though I was only partially listening. She knows I don't talk much, so she didn't really expect me to say anything. She just kept on glancing at me a few times to confirm I wasn't ignoring her.
She suddenly stopped talking and I looked at her wondering what had happened. She had an expression on her face as if she had just remembered something important.
“Abbey, I totally forgot to tell you about this guy that came here last week. He was here with someone, actually. He's not a regular, and I've never seen him around here before.”
“Who is he?” I asked, a bit curious because we rarely get new customers, just regulars.
“He is tall with dark hair, and he's the nicest guy I've ever met,” She said, looking dreamily.
I just sighed because I know Brittany, and she's a big lover girl. She easily catches feelings even from guys she only met once. I've tried warning her about it, but everything I said fell on deaf ears. I just don't want her to get hurt. She turned to look at me and saw my expression.
“Don't give me that look. This time, I didn't meet him only once. He came here with his friend thrice last week, and I really hope he comes today,” She said hopefully.
I just groaned, showing my disapproval, but she was still adamant about this, so I decided to indulge her.
“So what makes him the nicest guy ever?” I asked.
“I was in a bad mood that day, and he came to place an order for him and his friend. He noticed my mood and asked what was wrong, I told him, and he listened. He joked around with me and kept me company while I was brewing their coffee order. Before he left with their orders, he told me to smile and laugh more, that it suits me better,” She replied, blushing.
“So what's his name?”
“His name is….” Her expression quickly changed as realization hit.
“Oh no, I forgot to ask for his name,” she lamented.
At that point, I couldn't hold it in, I burst out laughing. I can't believe she has a crush on a guy when she doesn't even know his name.
She saw me laughing and frowned. She began using the cleaning napkin to beat me, and we both ended up laughing at the whole situation.
I suddenly remembered something, and my laughter died down. Brittany noticed and also stopped.
“What's wrong?” she asked.
“Nothing,” I replied and placed my head on the counter as a tear slipped from my eye.
I didn't want her to see me cry.
