Police cars filled the street outside Anna’s house, their flashing lights reflecting against the windows. Anna stood there in shock, her body trembling. She still couldn’t believe what was happening.
Aunt Sarah was dead.
And somehow, Anna felt it was her fault.
Tears streamed down her face as the reality slowly sank in. Aunt Sarah had been the only family she had left. Now she was gone.
A police officer approached her gently.
“Miss Anna,” he said, his voice calm, “we believe your aunt’s death was a suicide.”
Anna stared at him, completely dumbfounded.
A suicide?
How was that even possible?
Her mind raced with confusion. How could they come to that conclusion so quickly?
Without saying a word, she forced herself to walk back into the house. Her legs felt weak as she stepped inside the room where her aunt’s body lay.
But what she saw made her freeze.
There was no blood.
Not a single drop.
Instead, pills were scattered across the floor, as if Aunt Sarah had taken them herself. The scene looked carefully arranged to suggest suicide.
Anna’s heart pounded in her chest.
When she first came into the house earlier, Aunt Sarah had been lying in a pool of blood. The image was still fresh in her mind. It was the reason she had rushed outside in panic and called the police without even thinking.
She couldn’t stand the sight then, and even now the memory made her feel sick.
Since that moment, she had stayed outside crying while waiting for the police to arrive. She had been too terrified to go back inside.
Now she wished she had.
Maybe if she had stayed, things wouldn’t look like this.
No matter how much she tried to explain to the officers what she had seen, they didn’t believe her. To them, the scene inside the house told a different story.
It was her word against the evidence in front of them.
And the evidence was winning. They all thought she was confused due to the shock even though she told them how her aunt hated pills she hardly took painkillers
Anna was eighteen now, legally old enough to stay in the house alone. But standing there, surrounded by police officers and the flashing lights of their cars, she had never felt more alone in her life.
Her world had just taken another turn — one she wasn’t ready for.
By dawn the police were already done and were about leaving Anna hadn't closed her eyes even for a bit through out the night even if she wanted she just couldn't
Anna had already called Lily and Linda and they were already on their way of all days that this had to happen in best friends birthday
The police left and ambulance had left already Anna had refused to follow them she couldn't even bring her self to leave the house of only she had been with her aunt would any of this had happened if she had not gone to the birthday party all of a sudden she felt that familiar presence around her like the person was watching her she couldn't take it anymore
