I lifted a hand to knock on Kenzie's door but hesitated. She probably didn't want to see me. I shouldn't have shown up unannounced. Dropping my hand to my side, I heaved a sigh.
Like an i***t, I let days pass without calling her to apologize. I should have reached out to her the very next day to make amends. My outburst was totally uncalled. She was being pushy, as I'd called her, out of concern.
What really had me worried was that she hadn't reached out either. Had I ruined the one true friendship I'd been building? I lifted a hand to my mouth to chomp away at my poor fingernails. They couldn't take much more of my anxiety because they'd already been nibbled down to nubs.
“I can't do this," I grumbled.
