The gunshot echoed across the cemetery. The bullet grazed Adrian's cheek. A thin line of blood appeared instantly, cutting across his skin before trickling down his jaw. Chloe screamed. "Adrian!" She grabbed his arm with trembling hands and frantically looked him over. "Are you hurt?" Adrian clenched his jaw and shook his head, keeping his eyes locked onto mine. "I'm fine." His voice was calm. But the fury in his eyes wasn't. I watched them cling to each other and felt something ugly rise inside me, my chest tightening. For years, I had thought I was beyond anger.
