CHAPTER 5

765 Words
Randa's POV I sit in total frustration, shame and tears as I listen painfully to the screams of joy and merriment that take place in the chapel. The chapel officials, Recila, and even Wolver had bought Deliah's plan. That it would be better to carry on with the wedding than suffer the long explanations that would have to be sold to the people, about how the wedding had to be permanently cancelled because I whored on my wedding night. Like Deliah phrased it, "saving your face. It'll take another 40 nights to wait for the full Tafan moon to make Wolver alpha, and he can't wait out that long, and even if he could, he would not be allowed to do it without a wife. So he had to go with the the new plan. My heart breaks even more that he ends up with Deliah, my best friend. To the woman who had sworn she didn't find him that attractive, that he was bad choice for me. I break into another round of tears as I try to accept that the love of my life will be settling with my best friend. I jump up from my seat when Recila's voice comes to me from behind, "there you are", she says, coming to sit with me. I sigh, lifting my legs to make room for her to sit. So far, Recila has been the only one with the knowledge of what has happened that hasn't smirked at me before my eyes. For what it has been, Wolver has looked at me once, ever since Deliah had given her suggestion, and even then, the joy and love I had seen in those eyes earlier had been replaced by dark balls of hatred and disgust. I had winced in fear of what my love had become. Even Deliah had walked past me, availing herself for a quick makeup before coming back for her first bite from Wolver. Recila had nicely shown me back to another room where I had been told to wait until after the wedding, it was best to keep me away from the wedding hall to avoid incessant disturbings from the village. "I have no where else to go if he turns his back on me", I blurt. Recila looks up at me and reaches out for my hands. "He's going to house you, sweetheart" She dabs at my tears with the hem of her veil. "This type of thing happens, you know", she says, darting her eyes around the room, as she tries to make me feel better. But I know better. This type of occurance has never happened. "Has it ever happened?", I ask. "Well, not to us Tafanans... B-but, I uhm...", she stutters. "See?", I say, taking my hands out of hers. I look away from her and focus my gaze on the open window. Fireworks explode and dazzle in the sky, and I feel like they have just exploded in my heart. A cold wind breezes in from the window and pauses to kiss my tears. "You're going to be okay", Recila says, resting her hands on my shoulders. She squeezes them softly for reassurance but I don't care. We both turn to look at the door when it is pushed open. Wolver walks in, arms affectionately linked with Deliah's. They reek of perfume, made from wild flowers. That should have been me and not her. Wolver doesn't spare me a look. His gaze holds with Recila and he speaks with his teeth gritted. "I'm leaving", he says. "And her?", Recila asks, clearing referring to me. Wolver rolls his eyes but stays silent. "You can't leave her", Recila states. "The Zooku pack will sweep her up immediately, you know how disastrous that can be" Wolver's hand folds into a fist and he looks at me, eying me with so much disdain. "Okay. But she can't move in as my wife. She has been clearly replaced", he emphasises replaced whilst staring at Deliah, and a wave of jealousy and anger hits me. I have no option, so I nod my head. "You'll be moving in as Deliah's personal handmaid" I raise my head to look closely at Wolver, but he spares me no attention. His jaws are clenched so hard I fear his teeth will fall out of their gums. I take a look at Deliah and she doesn't seem bothered. "You don't have to do this, Wolver", Recila pleads on my behalf, but his expression is unchanged. "I am not changing my mind", he says. And even I know that.
