Sweet Blackmail

My eyes were glued to the two of them. I saw Dr. Samantha smile at Matthew and lightly pat his shoulder. He didn't even flinch or move away. Instead, he gave a faint smile, a subtle yet genuine smile that I had never seen on him before, especially when he was with me. It was my first time seeing his full set of even, white teeth, and he even had a dimple on one cheek that made him even more charming. But I got even more annoyed when Dr. Samantha took a tissue and leaned a little closer to Matthew to wipe the side of his lips, even though there wasn't any dirt at all. This b***h is getting on my nerves! It felt like smoke was suddenly coming out of my nostrils. The carbonara on my plate suddenly lost its taste. "Excuse me for a moment, Joyce," I said coldly as I put my plate down on the table. "Hey, where are you going? You haven't finished eating yet, and I thought you wanted this lechon skin!" Joyce called after me, but I ignored her. I pulled the folded volunteer form for the Gabriel Fraser Memorial Medical Mission out of my pocket, which Marky had asked the guard to give me earlier. This was the best chance to go over and have him sign it. And of course, to remind him that there was a beautiful intern looking after him. I took a deep breath, fixed my ponytail, and confidently walked toward their table. "Dr. Fraser, Dr. Cruz, good afternoon po," I greeted sweetly as I approached them. The two of them looked at me at the same time. Matthew's eyebrows frowned slightly when he saw me, while Dr. Samantha gave me a confused smile, but it was fake. I could see her eyes quietly looking at me from head to toe. What does she think of me, ugly? Tsk! "Yes? Are you one of the interns?" Dr. Samantha asked in a very soft voice that made my temper rise even more. She was clearly making her voice sound cute even though she was already an old woman. "Yes, Dra. Intern Adeline Montemayor po," I answered confidently before turning to Matthew and giving him my sweetest smile. "Good afternoon po, Dr. Fraser. How's your food? Is it good? If you want, I can get you some dessert that is sweeter than anything else." I heard Matthew cough a little because of how bold I was acting. He crossed his arms and looked at me with cold eyes. "Do you know each other?" Samantha asked while looking at Matthew. I wasn't surprised because she was a doctor and naturally smart. "Miss Montemayor, it is not your job to be my waiter here. If you're done eating, go back to the nursing station." "Yes. we know each other," I answered her question because Matthew avoided answering it. "Oh Matthew, you're being so strict with your intern," Dr. Samantha said with a laugh as she touched Matthew's arm. "Let her be. She's actually very cute. Very accommodating." I wanted to pull Dr. Samantha's hand away from my Daddy Matthew's arm. But I held myself back. I forced a smile. "Thank you po, Dr. Cruz. Actually po, I came here because of this," I said as I handed the paper to Matthew. "Dr. Fraser, I would like to volunteer for the medical mission next week. I need your signature so I can join." Matthew looked at the paper in my hand before looking back at me, raising one eyebrow. "Medical mission?" he asked coldly. "Yes." "Only senior staff and resident doctors are allowed there, Miss Montemayor. And if I remember correctly, you were late on your first day. Do you think you deserve to join a serious mission when you can't even handle waking up early in the morning?" I felt a pain in my heart after hearing what he said, especially because he was scolding me right in front of Dr. Samantha. "Matthew, maybe she just wants to learn," Dr. Samantha said as she defended me. "Besides, we need extra hands at the triage because I heard only a few staff volunteered this year since Mountain Province is so far away." Matthew looked at Samantha, and his expression softened for a moment. "Samantha, the logistics there are difficult. Someone like her isn't used to that kind of place. She might only become a burden." A burden?! Me?! My head was starting to hurt because of what I was hearing. But I wasn't going to give up. "Dr. Fraser, I can handle any job there," I said seriously as I looked straight into his eyes. "Even if I have to carry heavy boxes, wash equipment, or help patients at the triage, I'll do it. I won't be a burden to you... or to anyone." Matthew met my eyes. It felt like electricity passed between us during those few seconds of silence. He seemed surprised by how determined I was. Before he could say anything, his pager suddenly rang. He looked at it and sighed. He stood up and adjusted his white coat. "There's an emergency in the ICU. Samantha, I'll go ahead." "Sure, I'll follow after I drink some water," Samantha said with a smile. Matthew turned back to me, took the form from my hand, and quickly hid it. "Daddy, no!" His eyes narrowed the moment I said that. He looked around, and Samantha immediately frowned while looking at Matthew as if asking for an explanation. "Adeline is my son's fiancée, Sam." I glared at Matthew. He actually explained himself to that woman as if they were in a relationship. "Oh, I see. You didn't tell me right away." Samantha looked relieved and smiled at me, no longer giving me the fake smile from before. "Go ahead, Sam. I'll follow. I just need to talk to her." "Of course. Take your time," Samantha answered sweetly. When the two of us were finally left alone, he immediately scolded me. The other nurses were looking at us, but since they already knew Marky was my boyfriend, they weren't surprised that Matthew and I were talking face-to-face. "Adeline—" "Fine. If you don't want to bring me along, then don't. But I'll sleep at your place and share a room with Marky in the mansion!" I said firmly, making him look shocked. "Didn't I tell you that you're not allowed to share a room until you get married—" "Well, you don't want to bring me along. What else am I supposed to do? Just have s*x with Marky—" "Enough!" he cut me off sharply, raising his voice, making the nurses and doctors look at us even more. "Fine." I secretly smiled. Daddy Matthew ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. It looked like he couldn't believe I had actually made him give in. He pulled out the pen clipped to his pocket and signed the form without even reading the rest of it. Then he handed it back to me without showing any emotion. "Prove to me there that you really aren't a burden, Miss Montemayor. If I receive even one complaint about you there, I'll send you back to Manila immediately," he warned coldly before quickly walking away. I was left standing there, holding the paper with his signature. I felt like jumping with happiness! I was going to the mountains with my Daddy Matthew!
