Chapter Nine Saturday was a whirlwind of a party. The football game was one of the best of the season, which was a great way to end the last home game of the year. They played a post-game victory set for the players. The entire afternoon, Hunter did everything he could to avoid looking at Sydney. On field or off, he made a point of talking with other tenors. They invited him out for pizza and beer after the game, but the only thing on his mind was a date alone with Sydney. As soon as he got into his van, he texted her to ask what time he could pick her up. Give me a chance to get off the field. Jeez. He could hear her snickery comment as if she sat next to him. He checked the time. Allowing for the hellacious drive home and a shower and then the drive to her apartment, he texted back,
