Kae's pov.
The warmth in my lower abdomen kept spreading and growing more intense with each step as I
went away from the festival grounds.
Without hesitation I clutched at my stomach, mingling in confusion and fear in my chest. What
was happening to me?
My mind gripped in fear my voice barely above a whisper. And for that moment, I reached the
edge of the forest; my wolf was restless, pacing inside me like a caged beast.
“Kae!” Lila’s voice rang out behind me, breathless then she caught up.
“What’s going on? You’ve
been acting weird all night.
”
I turned to face her, struggling to find the words.
“I don’t know, Lila. Something’s… wrong. Or
maybe it’s right? I can’t explain it.
”
Her eyes softened, concern evident as she stepped closer.
“Did something happen with Thane?
I saw you leave with him.
”
My chest tightened at the mention of his name.
“He’s nothing but a mistake,
” I said bitterly.
“He
made that very clear.
”
Lila frowned but didn’t push further.
“Let’s get you home. You need rest.
”
I could hear the warmth in my abdomen persist; it was almost as if it were alive.
Without hesitation, I decided to walk back to my small cabin at the edge of the pack’s territory. I
tried to create a resolve and to shake the feeling, but it was impossible to ignore.
When we arrived at my cabin, Lila hesitated at the door.
“Don’t act like you're fine, are you sure
you’re okay? You look pale and tired.
”
“I had a long, stressful day, but don't worry I'll be fine,
” I lied, forcing a weak smile. Thanks for
sticking with me tonight.
“It's my pleasure, Kae; you know I'll always be by your side no matter what,
” she said firmly.
“Just call me if you need anything”
.
I nodded, closing the door behind her and leaning heavily against it.
The cabin became quiet at that moment, the stillness only simplifying the chaos in my mind.
The night replayed in my head as I paced the small living room, running a hand through my hair.
I could still remember Thane’s touch, his words, and the rejection. And now this strange
sensation that I couldn’t explain.
I became so exhausted collapsing onto the couch with my hand instinctively resting on my
abdomen, and to my surprise, the warmth seemed to pulse beneath my palm.
“What's happening to me? It shouldn’t be what I am thinking,
” I whispered aloud.
The warmth in my stomach didn’t fade; if anything, it grew stronger. My wolf was more active
than ever, her presence almost overwhelming.
The following days were a blur of confusion and anxiety.
I avoided the pack as much as possible, unwilling to face their questions or their judgment.
Whispers about my encounter with Thane had already begun to circulate, and I didn’t have the
energy to defend myself.
The question kept increasing when I started noticing different changes around me.
My senses become sharper, and my reflexes faster. I could hear conversations from a distance,
even across the pack grounds, and smell scents I’d never noticed before.
It wasn’t until a week later that I finally sought answers.
My body shivered as I found myself standing with Marisol, an elderly woman who happens to be
the pack’s healer, everything looked blurry; it was as if I was daydreaming.
She had always brought solutions to people’s problems but her cabin was nestled deep in the
woods, away from the hustle and bustle of the main village.
“Come In child, you're highly welcome”
. Marisol said before I even knocked, her voice soft but
firm.
I stepped inside, the scent of herbs and incense filling my nostrils. Marisol was seated at a
table, her sharp eyes studying me as I entered.
“You've been avoiding the pack,
” she said, gesturing for me to sit.
“And now you're here, so tell
me, what troubles you?”
.
I hesitated, unsure of how or where to begin.
“Something….changed after the full moon,
” I
carefully said.
“I feel confused and different; my speed and strength increase. I am even
stronger now, but there is a warmth in my abdomen that won't go away; I don't know what it is?”
Marisol’s eyes narrowed, her expression thoughtful.
“Have you been in contact with anyone
unusual? Anyone outside our pack?”
I swallowed hard, the memory of Thane flashing in my mind.
“I… I spent time with Thane Wilder
during the festival.
”
Her eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her reaction.
“I see. And did anything…
intimate things happen between you?”
Heat flooded my cheeks, and I looked away.
“Yes.
”
Marisol took a deep breath, rising from her chair to retrieve a small vial of liquid from a nearby
shelf.
“Drink this it will make you better,
” she said, handing it to me.
“What is it?” I asked, eyeing the vial suspiciously.
“It's a truth serum, it helps a lot,
” she bluntly said.
“It will reveal what's happening within you”
.
I refused at first but finally took the vial and drank its contents. The liquid was bitter, and I
winced as it went down.
Within a moment a strange sensation washed over me. My vision blurred and I felt as if I was
floating. Images kept flashing in my mind. I could see the face of Thane, the full moon, and then
a heartbreak.
I gasped clutching my stomach.
“What's this? What's happening?”
.
Marisol's expression softened her voice gently.
“You're pregnant, and you're carrying his child,
Kae.
”
“Whose child?” I curiously asked.
“Thane, of course,
” she said with a smile.
Her words hit me like a thunderclap.
“What? That's impossible!”
“Don't be scared, is not for a werewolf,
” she said calmly.
“The bond between mates, even
fleeting ones, is powerful. It's so rare, but it happens”
.
Panic surges through me.
“But he doesn't care; he doesn't want me; he called me a mistake and
even said my bloodline is tainted.
”
Marisol frowned.
“Thane is a fool if he cannot see your worth, I believe he will learn soon. But
this child is not a mistake, Kae. It's a gift”
.
I shook my head with tears streaming down my face.
“How can I raise a child in a world I'm
already an outcast? How can I even protect them?”
Marisol placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“You're stronger than you realize, Kae. This
child will be part of you, and you will fight for them with everything you have; this is not the end
of life!”
Her words were meant to comfort me but it only deepened my fears.
As I left her cabin, my mind raced with questions. How could I face Thane again? Would he
even care about the child? And what would the pack think when they found out?
But the biggest question of all lingered in my mind as I returned to my cabin:
Was this child a blessing or a curse?
