Kae's pov.
“Where are you going, Kae? Don't tell me you're leaving, are you?” Lila’s voice was sharp, but
her eyes were soft with worry.
I froze, my bag halfway packed, and turned to face my best friend.
“I have no choice, Lila. If I
stay, they’ll judge me, and Thane… he doesn’t want me. I won’t let my children grow up like
this.
”
Lila stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“Kae, running won’t solve anything. The
pack protects its own, even if Thane rejects you, we’ve to stick together and fight this”
I swallowed hard, trying to push down the lump in my throat.
“The pack protects their own. I’m
nothing to them now. And if they find out I’m pregnant? Do you know what they’ll say? ‘She
trapped him.
’ ‘She’s desperate.
’ I won’t let my babies grow up in that kind of world where danger
resides.
”
Her gaze softened, and for a moment, she looked like she wanted to argue. But then she sighed
and pulled me into a hug.
“Promise me you’ll be safe.
”
I clung to her tightly.
“I promise but I'll try.
”
“Not just trying, Kae. You will live to see your babies through the storm”
. She said, her face sad
and remorseful.
“Don't worry, Lila. Even if the journey isn't going to be easy, I'll do my best. Scaling through the
storm”
.
Weeks later, I found myself in a small, quiet town far from the Moonshadow Pack. The air
smelled different here—no trace of werewolves, no pack politics, just peace.
I rented a tiny cottage at the edge of the forest and took on a job at a local café. No one here
knew me, and I intended to keep it that way.
I stood by pondering about my baby, my twins. They deserved a fresh start, even if it meant
living as a lone wolf.
Most nights were terrifying and painful; I lay in bed with my hand resting on my belly, feeling the
faintest of movements.
“It’s just us now,
” I whispered, tears threatening to spill.
“I’ll protect you both. No matter what.
”
“New in town right?” The cafe owner, Mrs Harris, asked one morning as she handed me an
apron.
“Probably, yes,
” I replied simply, keeping my answer short and vague.
“I just needed some
privacy and a change of scenery”
.
Mrs. Harris smiled knowingly.
“Sometimes, a new place is all we need to heal from our past.
You're safe here dear”
.
Her words were kind, but they didn’t stop the paranoia that lingered in the back of my mind.
What if someone from the Moonshadow Pack found me? What if Thane did?
A Lot of thought kept running in my mind; it was as if my world were gradually grumbling, but as
I walked home one chilly evening, away from the café, I felt a strange warmth radiating from my
stomach.
It was electrifying leaving me with no choice but to stop in my tracks, instinctively moving my
hand to my belly.
I saw it; the warmth grew stronger, and a faint, glowing mark appeared on my skin, swirling in
intricate patterns I had never seen before.
“What's happening to me?” I whispered, stumbling back against a tree.
The mark pulsed with a soft light, as if alive, and I felt a strange energy coursing through me. My
heart raced as questions flooded my mind. What was this? Why was it happening?
My hands shook as I stared down at the mark, now dim but still faintly visible.
I quickly ran home, locking the door behind me and sinking onto the couch.
Could this be connected to my children? Were they… special?
And then it started again. A strange mark was glowing faintly on my stomach; this time, it was
infuriating and swirling like a delicate web of light. It pulsed softly, as if alive.
“No!!, this can’t be happening,
” I screamed, backing away until I hit the wall.
The more I screamed the more the mark grew brighter, casting an eerie glow in the dark room. I
pressed my hand against it, hoping to make it stop, but the light only intensified.
“What does this mean?” I whispered, my voice trembling.
The mark was unlike anything I had ever seen, and deep down, I knew it wasn’t just about me. It
was connected to my unborn children.
While I was still contemplating a harsh knock at the door jolted me from my thoughts. My heart
leaped into my throat. No one ever visited me here.
“Kae,
” a strange voice called from the other side.
I froze. Who could that be?
“Open the door,
” the voice said again, firmer this time.
I summoned courage challenging the unknown with extreme anger.
“Who is there?”
At this moment, there was no answer. The whole place instantly became calm and silent.
I tightened my grip on the doorknob, my heart panting heavily and ready to run if needed.
“If this
is a kind of joke, it's not funny! Reveal yourself,
” I said, my voice ranging in anger.
Still nothing.
I slowly opened the door with my heart panting, but to my surprise, I found no one there. The
forest beyond my cottage was silent, the shadow stretching long under the pale moonlight.
But just as I was about to close the door. I saw it. A figure standing at the edge of the trees was
too far to make out any details but close enough to send chills down my spine.
“Who are you?” I called out my voice shaking.
The figure kept mute without any movement or answer.
Suddenly it was as if I was carried by the wind. A deep voice reached my ears.
“You can't hide
forever Kae.
”
Fear gripped me then I quickly slammed the door shut, locking it and pressing my back against
it. My heart thundered in my chest.
Who was that? And did they know my name?
And more importantly, what did they want with me and my unborn children?
For the first time since leaving the pack, I realized that my secret wasn’t safe. Not here. Not
anywhere.
I looked down at the glowing mark on my belly, a sense of dread washing over me.
What was happening to my babies? And what did this mark mean for all of us?
