24 Josie I stared blankly at the microwave as it heated my mug of tea that had gone tepid. When Alex and I were sitting together at his kitchen table just moments ago, I had been convinced he was about to kiss me, and I desperately wanted him to. My mind must be playing tricks on me. There was no other explanation for my delusional fantasies that my boss was at all attracted to me. Alex loved Claire––whether she was here or not––and I would be wise to remember that. As much as I wanted to go home tonight after work and dive back into more of his books, I silently vowed to stop reading them.
