POV Selene Veyra. After I heard him say that about my parents… that they were murdered… I didn’t believe it. All this time… I thought they died in a car accident. Well, that’s what I remember, that horrible scene, that’s how it happened. Those images always came in my dreams. But no. My uncle Ronan said they were murdered. My mind… was going a mile a minute, thinking about so many things. About who could have done that to them. And why. My uncle said he needed my help. But how? What would I even help with? I wasn’t understanding anything that was happening. He called me, grabbed the suitcase from the trunk and got out of the car. We went through the big iron gate and walked across the garden, which, by the way, was beautiful. For a brief moment, I tried not to remember what he had told me… well, the beauty of that garden helped me feel a little calmer, even if just for a few moments. There were some fruit trees there, a stone path that led to the main door of the house. It really was a cozy house. He opened the door and then introduced me to a woman. She looked a bit older, but she had a warm smile. “Selene, this is Daphne, the housekeeper. She takes care of everything around here. And she’ll show you the house later.” My uncle set my suitcase down beside him and continued: “I’m going to take my niece to her room, and soon we’ll come down to eat.” The housekeeper smiled, and I greeted her with a small smile. She headed toward the kitchen, and then my uncle and I went up the stairs… Everything here was so beautiful. Some framed pictures on the walls, the house decorated in neutral tones, which was nice. Everything was very clean and smelled good. And well, I could smell the food being prepared. As we walked down the hallway, he gestured to the right. “This is your room, Selene. I’ll leave your suitcase here. Before you rest, I want to show you something. We need to continue our conversation.” I just nodded. I wanted to know more… he had just dropped that bomb about my parents. I wanted to know how that had happened. I needed to know… We went to a place that looked more like his office. We walked in and he closed the door, then asked me to sit down. So I did, and he sat in front of me. He took a folder out of the drawer and opened it… There were several papers inside… I kept watching, curious. He turned a few pages in my direction. My eyes widened… I looked closely. They were photos… an accident. “These are the case photos from your parents… Look carefully,” he said. I did what he asked… The picture was… just like in my dreams, like what I had witnessed. My heart was beating so fast, tears threatened to fall down my face, but I held them back and didn’t cry. Ronan got my attention. “As head of security, I investigated deeply what happened to your parents.” He then showed me a more detailed photo of the car… of my parents. My eyes were watery, I held the photo… gripped it tightly and shook my head. “It really is my parents’ car… I remember it,” I said, feeling a knot in my chest. I looked closely at some details of the car and there were claw marks. But… claw marks? The fire from the explosion was around the car. A scene that made my heart clench. But those claw marks, that was strange. “But… what is this? Claws? How can this be here?” I said, showing my uncle the photo. “Yes, claws… The one who killed your father is alive, out there… It’s not human.” The more he talked… the less I was able to understand anything. My mind was still on that photo… thinking about my parents… And everything he said… started to sound distorted… He said he knew the one responsible was in the city and that he wanted my help to catch them. I wasn’t understanding anything anymore. He said it wasn’t just one person, that there were several. “You need to understand how things work, Selene. There are many things you don’t understand, that you need to learn…” The more he spoke… the lower his voice seemed to get… I wasn’t understanding anything he was saying. I could only think… about my parents. About how they suffered… that something horrible happened to them. I couldn’t believe… that some insane person… killed my parents. There were claw marks there. What kind of person could do that? My whole life… was a lie. I thought it was an accident… Everyone lied to me. Everyone. I was alone. I suffered alone. And I felt even more lost in that orphanage, where everyone hated me. Someone did that to them… and who would it be? I need to find out… At any cost. I promise that whoever did this is going to pay. They are going to die for taking my parents’ lives.
