POV Selene Veyra
I adjusted my backpack and started climbing the stairs. I had to be prepared for this day.
As I walked down the hallway, what I saw and heard were voices and plenty of students close to each other, chatting, laughing… the way they dressed was so different. Nothing like the young people at the orphanage.
There were girls talking, leaning against their lockers, and some boys very close to them, too close. I tried not to look too much.
Were the girls and boys really that bold?
I kept walking straight. I needed to find the principal’s office so I could check where my classes would be.
I could handle it…
I just had to pay attention to each classroom door and read carefully.
When I reached the end of the hallway, I turned left, and, right ahead, I saw a student standing in front of a door. I got closer and saw what was written on it.
Principal’s Office.
Found it.
Finally.
I waited for the girl to go in first, then approached the door, waiting for my turn.
It didn't take long, just a few minutes.
She came out, and then... I got closer.
I knocked softly on the door and heard a voice.
“Come in.” It was a soft, feminine voice.
I turned the knob and went in.
The first thing I saw was a woman sitting, looking at the table.
She looked to be in her early thirties, with blonde hair tied back in a bun and square glasses.
She looked up at me.
I approached the chair in front of her and said.
“Good morning. I’m Selene Veyra; I’m the new student. My uncle Ronan enrolled me.”
She looked me up and down, then checked some papers. She handed one toward me and said:
“Welcome, Selene Veyra… Here is your class schedule. Everything is explained there. You have access to a locker to keep your things.”
I looked at it carefully, and everything was very well detailed.
There was a small plastic bag with the key and the lock for my locker, and I could set whatever combination I wanted.
“Our school has a few activities. After you choose which one you want, you can come back here, all right? You have a week to choose your activity.”
I thanked her and then left.
Classes were about to start.
I headed towards the lockers; it didn't take me long to find them, to be honest.
When I saw the number of my locker, I took the padlock and key and chose my password. When it opened, I put my jacket inside; it wasn't that cold, the temperature here at school was just right.
I locked the locker, checked once again where my first class would be, and started walking quickly so I wouldn't be late.
History.
When I walked into the classroom, all the students looked at me. The teacher had just arrived. I walked up slowly and told her my name.
The teacher smiled.
“Welcome, I’m Miss Arabella.” She looked at the class and said:
“Everyone… this is our new student, Selene Veyra. I want you all to be polite to her and help her with whatever she needs.”
All the students just stared at me, paying a lot of attention to me… That was kind of strange.
“You can sit in the front, Selene, in one of those desks over there; they’re free,” the teacher said. I thanked her and started walking…
Where was I going to sit?
I had no idea.
There were so many people staring at me…
Well, I was the new girl.
My heart was pounding in my chest. I felt my body tremble a little, but I tried to concentrate, breathing deeply.
When I turned my face slightly... I realized that someone was watching me...
And in that same second, I felt a strange sensation... It was hard to describe... like a chill, a tingling, I felt my body heat up quickly... entirely.
When I looked at the boys' faces... I almost froze... I couldn't even blink or breathe properly.
There were four boys looking at me…
They all had a rare kind of beauty… They were different.
One of them had an animalistic look in his eyes, seeming to analyze me in a strange way, as if I were prey... and his eyes were so dark; he seemed very fierce.
The other boy was staring at me so intently, paying attention to every detail about me, which made me nervous.
The third one had blond hair and was watching me slowly, and a slight smile appeared on his lips... which, in a way, wasn't so bad. That made me a little less nervous.
Was this boy a little more normal than the others? Well, I didn't know.
“You can sit here, if you want,” one boy said, the last of the four.
He had slightly reddish hair; his eyes looked golden, something like that.
He was very pale, sitting in the row beside the empty desk…
He raised an eyebrow and gave me a quick smile. It only lasted a second.
I just nodded slowly, sat down next to him, and felt a knot in my throat…
I tried to look forward, to focus on what the teacher was saying.
But it was hard.
I could feel the four boys staring at me. It was strange, I knew... but I felt it anyway.
My skin tingled even more, which made me more alert. I could feel the hairs on my arms stand up.
And then... I smelled the boy next to me.
He had a different scent, one I had never smelled before. It was a good smell, it seemed unique, and it reminded me of nature.
I didn't understand what was happening to me, seriously. Why was I feeling this?
I wanted answers.
Well... I would get answers.
