Seated at the Patio Bar and Grill adorned in a baseball cap and sunglasses, he leisurely sips coffee. At the next table, a young family lunches and plans their afternoon. A little girl tries to bite a sandwich much too large for her mouth. Dripping sauce splatters her mittens. Clumsily, she fumbles to wipe it off when one mitten escapes her hands and falls to the floor. Tom watches her futile attempt to retrieve it from the deck. Her short arms dangle, fingers splay and stretch unsuccessfully. The chair begins to rock and topple sideways. Speedily, Tom reacts and holds the stool steady.
