Chapter 26-3

1928 Words

“Well, love, you seem rather thin,” he began. “I hear you’ve been seeing a doctor.” “A doctor?” she echoed. She looked up at the ceiling for a moment, as if trying to remember. After a few seconds, she replied, “Oh, yes. Dr. Wilson did come to see me. I had a nervous stomach for a few weeks after you left. But I’m much better now.” “I see,” he nodded. “And what of Dr. Grigsby?” “Dr. Grigsby!” she snarled, loud enough for him to shush her. In a whisper so full of menace, she continued, “What do you know of him? He is the vilest, most wretched, most awful man on the face of the earth.” “Do try to calm yourself, please, love,” he warned as a few eyes from across the room shifted their attention. “I’m so sorry to bring up unpleasantness, it’s only, I had heard he was treating you as well.”
