Chapter 3 Isaac Edwards lived in a large house just down the hill and a few blocks over from the enormous estate of the de Lisle family, and while he was a bit envious of their wealth, he did not covet having such a monstrosity of a home to care for. If Chateau de Papillon was a castle, then Edwards’s home was a manor house when it came to size, though in form, it did not replicate the dwellings of lords or gents of the court. Rather, his home was a two-story Gothic with a presence all its own. It sat only twenty or thirty yards from the street, as did all of the homes in this particular neighborhood, with a white picket fence serving as the only moat.
