On The Road Part 2

1010 Words
Even though it was night hanging around by the pool really relaxed me. Guess me and the kid had different ways of relaxing ourselves.    While I opened up my bag of chips and soda, I noticed that there was another guy besides me in the pool now. He must have just arrived while I went to buy soda. He was quite short and had a bleached mohawk. I'll just mind my own business, this dude's just probably here to relax just like me.    This was my "me" time. Sitting by the pool eating a bag of chips. The other guy here might as well be invisible for all I care. This... now this was inner peace.   So we decided to have breakfast there. I ordered a bunch of pancakes for sharing as well as bacon and eggs while the kid only ordered a scrambled egg and hash brown for his breakfast.    After we had breakfast we began to head out. While I was driving I remembered that on our way out the diner I saw that short mohawk guy again. Apparently the kid had a weird interaction with him last night. Something about arguing over diet coke.     The dude didn't seem like he was following us or anything. Must have been a bunch of coincidences? I think to myself. Plus, I didn't really find him sketchy or anything because he sat at the table farthest from us.     After we got done eating, we paid for the food and gave the waiter a tip. As we headed out I took a quick glance at the mohawk dude. He was still eating, and my god could he eat. He had plates on plates stack on top of one another. I can't even imagine how much his bill would be after all that food.     We've been on the road for quite some time. The kid was already sound asleep. We had two more days of travelling before we reach the port harbor. I'll just wake the kid up once we get close to the nearest stop over.    When I really think about it, the kid's been through a lot of s**t. But he sucks it up and still pushes through. Every apartment he has moved into has burned down. When Head Hunter first showed up and I explained to him what was happening he was confused at first but he was able to grasp the situation immediately.    The kid had balls of steel. He could push through whatever life throws at him and I give him props for that. I wish that at that age I was as hard working as him. I remember that when I first discovered my new found ability. I spent a lot of time hiding it.    The story that I told him about how I tested out the limits of my ability then moonlighting as a vigilante that roams the city only happened recently. It took me years before I could come to terms with my ability. I was ashamed and angry with myself at the time. I was angry and I would always ask myself back then "why me?".    "Why couldn't I just live a normal life"    I ended up in a dark place. I secluded myself from everyone, and from reality. At the time, I refused to believe what was happening to me as I lived my life by coping with the delusions that I made up. I would make up anything just so I could justify what the f**k was happening to me.    This is why I had a lot of respect for the kid. And why I took it upon myself to personally train him to master his new found powers. Whenever a new avatar for Order is chosen they are left  to their own devices to figure out what they have to do.     And I regret the time I wasted on secluding myself from the world. That's why I want the kid to do better than me. To not waste his time. And to get back to his normal way of life as soon as possible.      We arrived at the stop over and the kid was still sound asleep. So I decided to just lock the car and buy something from the convenience store by myself. We were probably a 30 minute drive away from the nearest motel from what the map says so I guess it would be alright to not wake up the kid.    While I was picking out different snacks I could see from the outside that the kid was still asleep in the car. A whole day of sleeping huh. Well I guess after we went through that hellish month of just training and working I guess he would just be regaining his energy now. And he was making the most right now whenever we had time to sleep.    I bought a bunch of chips and a soda for the the both of us. There was a fast food restaurant near us as well. I might buy some food from there for our dinner and we could just eat it at the motel since it's close by.     So I first left what I bought in the car. The kid was still sound asleep. Guess it's burger and fries for tonight. The kid is going to be livid once he wakes up and finds out that we're having burgers and fries again tonight.    When we arrived at the "motel" I was surprised. Apparently it was a bed and breakfast and not a motel. It looked alright, it was definitely an upgrade from the motel we stayed at last night. This bed and breakfast however did not have a pool. But beggars can't really be choosers.     It was relatively cheap and it looked better than the other places that we past by earlier.    It took awhile to wake the kid up. My goodness he was already asleep for the whole day and yet he was still so hard to wake up.    "Get up kid, we're at the bed and breakfast already."
