Growing up wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy for me either. I was fourth bored. three boys, and one small little girl! I was the last born because my mother finally got a girl. She was happy with all of her children, which made my father happy. He had three strong boys to train and carry on the family name. Mother had other plans though. She wanted me to train as well. You see, after I was born, she began having nightmares about an attack on the family and our pack. My father would always laugh it off because, as he put it, "who would attack a pack of more then 500 members! And besides, we are Northwood, we are strong my dear!" His calmness is what cost him dearly. it was right after my 6the birthday, while everyone was sleeping, we were attacked. The oldest of the four, Jayden, led us to the basement while our parents were out fighting the invasion. That is the day everything changed for my family and our pack.
My second oldest brother punched me in the arm, which hurt like hell. "This is all your fault!" Michael yelled at me. Confused by what he said, I just stood there staring at him, it was when Jayden smacked him on the back of the head questioning his statement that I returned from my thoughts. "How is any of this her fault?. She's six years old Michael!" Jayden replied with a roll of his eyes. " Mom warned us to do this for years", Michael explained, "after she was born, mom kept speaking of an attack and now look! Our parents are out there in this mess and it's her fault" Jayden just rolled his eyes and went to the window where the youngest boy, Chance, was watching everything. I followed behind to see what was happening outside. There were houses ablaze, and bodies laying on the ground covered in blood. Just when I was about to walk away, I spotted our mother's wolf. " Look! look! there is mother!" my brother pushed me out of the way and started cheering for her.
Angry about being pushed away, I slowly walked to the basement door that led outside, where I slipped out. Walking alongside the house staying in the shadows, I finally spotted my mother again. Fear... It rushed over my tiny body. In the mouth of a beast was my mother's neck, who was still trying to fight but stopped. She spotted me. I knew this because her eyes filled with fear when she realized I was outside. With all her might she let out a loud howl that was cut short with the snap of her neck.
Standing up quickly was a poor decision on my part because it caught the eye of the beast, which made him let go of my mother's lifeless body. I couldn't move, I was frozen in fear. I could hear my brothers screaming at me to run away, but I couldn't take my eyes off this wolf. Their eyes were like yellow gold with a hint of green. How could something that looked so beautiful be attached to something so evil? Realizing that I was lost in thought of fear, he dashed right for me, which made me scream and cover my eyes because I knew what was coming next. It felt like I stood there for ever until I felt a rush of hands scoop me up, running with me. Slowly uncovering my eyes to see, my father had grabbed me while two other wolves jumped the beast. I could see in his face rage and sorrow.
My father had lost his mate, his love, his best friend in a split second. Placing me back into the basement yelling at us not to move until he came back for us, I cried out "daddy... mommy!" he cupped my face in his hands and looked at me. "Listen to me Sarah, stay here with your brothers and do NOT come out until I come get you! do you understand?" I nodded my head and chance began leading me to the back of the room. "daddy will come back for all of you" with that the doors were shut with a bang and click, he locked us in. Chance put his arms around me as Jayden and Michael were talking and telling stories, but I couldn't hear half of it because sleep started pulling on me. Before long, my eyes had shut and I was asleep, but my dreams will forever more be of the fear I saw in my mother's eyes before they faded.
Everything changed after that day. My father became the beta, he was to train the new and up-coming wolves and reinforce the law of the pack. My brothers and I were trained more than anyone because we're his children, and he couldn't have us be weaker than anyone here. The day I lost my mother is the day my happy childhood ended.
