EVE (1)

Darci’s POV Making our way to the side of the packhouse where our home is attached, I can see the garden by the border, but Eve is nowhere to be found. Panic settles in my stomach, pushing its way up to my throat. I walked quickly into my house with Ezra and Stella hot on my tail, scanning each room for my baby sister. Silence. Not a soul throughout our home. Vyra’s been pretty quiet recently, up until now. Dar, something is wrong. I can feel it. She whines. What do you mean? What’s wrong? I question her. I don’t know, I really don’t. I can just feel it. Something is very, very wrong. She replied. “EVE!” I screamed, running up the stairs. I practically broke down the doors as I ran through each suite, thoroughly tearing them all apart in a matter of seconds. My heart was pounding in my chest. I ran back down the stairs to a frightened Stella, and Ezra looking alarmed and panicked from feeling my emotions through our bond. “Darci..” He looks at me, attempting to step towards me. “I can’t find her.” I whisper as I look to him with wide eyes. Before I could even blink my feet were moving beneath me, propelling me towards the garden. I could see little lines in the dirt from her fingers running through it. “Stella, go find Mom, now!” I hollered over my shoulder. She nodded dutifully and sprang away towards the main house. Ezra looked at me with a pained expression. “She couldn’t have gone far Dar, she’s just a little girl.” He said reassuringly. I dropped to my knees in the dirt, placing my hands over the area Eve had been playing. I haven’t the slightest clue why, but something urged me to do it, something primal deep within me. I closed my eyes, focusing hard on the soil beneath my fingers. I hummed quietly, listening to the breeze sway through the trees, the birds in flight overhead. Where are you Eve? I asked myself in my head. “Darci...” Ezra places his hand on my shoulder, causing me to open my eyes and look up. I gasped at the sight before me. A bright orange path illuminated tiny shoeprints heading into the forest. “How did you...” “I-I.. I don’t know. I just wanted to know where she is.” I mumbled. “It’s some sort of tracking magic.” Ezra stated in amazement. “Maybe this is what the elders meant when they said I’d be gifted.. We don’t have time right now. Let’s follow it.” We made our way through the dense redwoods, following the pathway lit before us. We came down a small embankment where the footprints circled a fallen tree, and then disappeared entirely. It was as if she didn’t walk farther than this point. “Rogue.” Ezra snarled loudly. I could smell them too. Tears started brimming in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. “Did rogues take my sister?!” I yelled aloud. “Darci.. I don’t know. It is possible.. Given what we’re seeing. What I do know, is we’ve been breeched.” There’s been a breech on the East side of the territory! All warriors present, NOW! Ezra boomed through our pack link. Within seconds over a 100 warriors had already congregated, with more heading to designated positions. Alpha and Luna had arrived, and were giving out commands while my father directed the troops. I see Stella with my mother in tow, her normally warm and cheery brown eyes wide with fear. “Baby, what happened?” She whispers as she rushes up to me. I look at her, lost in a sea of emotions. “I was out with some friends, Harvey was supposed to be watching them but Stella came and found me because he took off. She left Eve with Mrs. Martha and Eve went outside to play in the garden and.. an- and she wasn’t here. Then something insane happened and I lit the path she was walking and when the path ended we we’re at a tree trunk in an area that smelled like rogues.” My mother, normally composed and graceful like our Luna, was visibly shaken. “Where is Harvey?!” She bellows out to the crowd. “Darci, what do you mean you lit the path? Where is your sister? Nothing you’re saying is making any sense!” Ezra stepped forward, cautiously grabbing my mothers hand as he spoke lowly. “Loralie, I’m sorry to tell you this but I think Eve was kidnapped by rogues. Your daughter is trying to tell her she discovered one of her gifts, and it led us to the last place Eve walked to. When we reached the end, rogue smell was still heavily detectable in the air. I’m sorry..” Her eyes widen in astonishment, welling with tears that would never fall. “Take me there. We have to find her! She’s my last baby.. Goddess she is only a baby! What kind of sick piece of garbage would take a 4-year old little girl?” My mother whimpered. I nodded quickly, leading my Mother quietly towards the fallen log with Ezra following behind. There were too many eyes around to show her how we found it, but the smell still lingered faintly in the air. Her wolf let out a low, vicious growl. “Your father doesn’t know yet, neither does everyone else. I am going to alert him and he will inform the Alpha. Every extra available body is parting into troops and scouring these woods. Darci, don’t forget this scent. I need you to track it.” Mother spoke hastily, whirling around on one heel and sprinting towards my father. I nodded dutifully towards her back, and faced Ezra. Any hopes that he’d had to bond with me these next few days are over, and he knows it. “Ezra, I think it’d be best if we went in separate troops. I need to focus, and I can’t find my sister if I’m thinking about this mess.” I regarded him coldly, I needed to put some distance between us. I’m not sure I want to be with him yet, after everything.. I still am not certain. But one thing is for sure, it’s hard to deny him when he stands so close to me. His intoxicating scent causes my body to betray me, fighting within my self not to give in and touch him. His face looks crestfallen, but is quickly replaced with anger. “You want to be in a troop that I'm not apart of? Where I can’t protect you, where you’ll be with unmated males? That’s a hard pass.” He replies sternly. It took everything in me not to roll my eyes. “I have warrior blood, I don’t need to be protected, or coddled. I can handle my own. And I can be around whoever I’d like Ezra, you don’t own me! Plus, as the Delta’s daughter I’ll choose my own troop, which includes more females than males. We’re smarter. I’m not wasting my time on this, I need to gear up and go find my sister. I’d appreciate it if you did the same!” I retorted angrily and turned away. He grabbed my wrist, twirling me back towards him. His eyes swirled with fire, Felix wanted to surface. He studied my face for a few seconds, as I stood there transfixed by him. Suddenly, he crushed me to his chest, leaning down to my neck to breathe in my scent. Ezra gently grabbed a fistful of my hair, pulling my face towards his own. He then ever so gently captured my lips with his, lingering for a few moments. He pulled away, calming his wolf and leaned his forehead into mine before kissing it. He leaned down once more to my ear, fanning my neck with his hot breath. “Be careful.” He mumbled. Utterly mesmerized, I still hadn’t reacted to his display of affection. My lips tingled, my whole body was riding out the after waves of shock. I didn’t even notice he had turned and was walking away. After gathering myself, I ran towards my home to prepare for the days ahead. Ezra’s POV My defiant little mate, I wonder how she can anger me and arouse me in under 5 seconds, yet she did it. I wasn’t expecting her to be so unwilling. I’d never had any she-wolf try to put space between us. They wanted to live on my hip. Darcietta is an entirely different breed. She did not care about the privileges of being Luna, nor did she care about the power she’d obtain. After everything this last week, she still hadn’t given me a decision. Could I blame her? No. But that didn’t stop Felix from clawing to the surface, begging for his mate. Kissing her just now, was easily the best feeling I’ve ever felt to date. Just a simple kiss with her blew s*x with anyone else out of the water. My body has never felt such pleasure from one simple act. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that girl decides to keep me. I head back towards my mother and father to see them standing beside Delta Henry and Loralie as they chastised their son for not watching after his little sisters as instructed. “This is YOUR fault!” Henry screamed. Harvey lowered his head with guilt. “I know sir, I am so sorry.” He whispered. “You will be.” Was all Henry said before turning away from his son to face the Alpha. “Let him sit in the dungeon until his sister is found. Maybe he will understand what she is probably going through at this very moment.” Harvey’s eyes widened, as he looked to his Mom for help. As she opened her mouth to speak, Henry cut her off. “NO! You are a future warrior to this pack and you will learn obedience! This is the punishment you will receive if you do not follow orders, look what has happened because of it!” He roared. Loralie’s lip trembled, she knew she couldn’t fight her mate on this as he was far too furious. She lowered her head quietly and obliged. Harvey was pulled away, and the rest of the pack had started pairing off in groups of 6. I saw that Darci had come out of her house completely ready just as her brother was being sentenced. She looked furiously at her parents, and then headed towards the crowd. From what I could see, Darci, my sister Maria, and two warriors she-wolfs named Jillian and Maxis had joined together. I wondered who the last two would be, but I didn’t have to wait for very long as my mate smiled in the direction of two arrogant warrior kids I can’t stand, Nate and Alec. Of course. Felix growled.
