As if Katie couldn’t feel worse, now Jamie was flirting with her best friend.
“What was that thing with the hat all about?” Katie asked, hoping there was a reasonable explanation.
Haley shrugged. “He’s a weird guy, right?”
“Do you think he was flirting with you?” Katie asked. “He kept staring at you.”
Haley screwed her face up as if to say, “What are you talking about?” Surely she had to have noticed though. It was possible Haley was playing it down to save Katie’s feelings.
“I don’t get why he is trying to make me jealous,” Katie huffed. “Isn’t it enough that he led me on then rejected me?”
“You think he’s trying to make you jealous?” Haley asked. Her tone sounded sceptical, as though she thought Katie was imagining things.
