Chapter 10

Jade had gotten pretty good at gauging Caleb’s moods, however subtle. However, when he stormed in and stood, head c****d like a horror movie serial killer, Jade didn’t need to think very hard to realise he was pissed at her. Or why.   “You’re still mouthing off then?” he asked. Obviously, he already knew.   “Look—”   “No. Just forget this whole thing. I wanted to give you a chance but you never learn. I’ll take what I’m owed from your brother, one way or another.”   “No!” Jade cried. She jumped up from the bed and ran over to Cal. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I just blurt things out! I don’t mean them. I swear. I want to do this. I’m emotionally invested now.”   Caleb rolled his eyes and sat in his chair, swivelling it away. This was her cue to leave, but she couldn’t. It occurred to Jade that it wasn’t just about her brother anymore. Her brother’s safety was a strong motivator, but she also liked spending time with Caleb.   This epiphany shook her to her core.   ‘Why do I feel this way?’   Jade crept across the room and tentatively knelt before him.   “Please forgive me,” she whispered. “Please. Please? Just give me one last chance.”   “I gave you a chance, but you aren’t taking it seriously. You talk s**t about me. Waste my time talking to your friends. And don’t go thinking I didn’t notice you were on your poker site earlier. If you are going to clear history to cover your tracks, make sure you don’t wipe it all. It makes it too obvious. That’s just a little tip for the future,” Caleb said.   Damn it, why didn’t I think of that?   “I’ll take it seriously. I swear. Just give me one more chance. Please. I promise you won’t regret it.”   “I regret ever meeting you,” Caleb huffed.   The barb stung more deeply than she would have expected.   Jade knitted her hands together and made puppy dog eyes in one final desperate attempt at a plea. Her eyes stung with tears, and although her instinct was to force them back, she knew tears would not hurt her chances. “I’m begging you; please will you forgive me?” Jade said, voice breaking as the tears broke through.   “Wow, before you could barely choke out the word ‘sorry’ and now you’re on your knees begging for my forgiveness,” Caleb commented. “What the f**k happened?”   “I don’t know. Maybe I’m growing as a person,” Jade suggested.   “Hmm, if you say so,” he shrugged.   “Please… just for one minute… imagine how it would feel to see a person you love tortured because you were stupid enough to piss off the wrong person. What you are doing to me is seriously cruel, even if you think I deserve it.”   Caleb shrugged.   “At least let me take the punishment. Whatever it is. I’d rather you cut my finger off,” Jade said, wondering how bad the pain would really be. Excruciating, most likely.   Caleb laughed. “You would change your mind about that pretty damn quick. Trust me.”   He was probably right.   “However,” Caleb sneered, “I could punish you in a less permanent way.”   A lump popped up in Jade’s throat. It wouldn’t shift, as much as she tried to swallow it away.   “Pull your trousers down and bend over my lap.”   ‘What?’   Jade froze, mind reeling.   ‘What is happening right now?’   “Well? I don’t have all day, you know,” Caleb growled. He was becoming irritated.   Jade rose and slid her trousers down just enough to reveal the flesh of her backside. The bizarreness of the situation made her feel strangely dissociated, like she was far away, watching herself.   The first smack didn’t hurt exactly, but the shock of it pulled Jade back into her body. The second one did hurt. And the third, layered upon the lingering sting of the previous slap, made her stomach turn over in pain.   Jade winced and wriggled, trying to shift her bottom so that the slap wouldn’t hit the same mark, but he managed to find it, hitting her again and again with increasing force.   Jade did her best not to cry out, but after the seventh slap, a yelp escaped.   The worst part was not knowing how many more she had to endure. Was it ten? Surely it was ten. Ten was a good number.   ‘Ten fingers, ten toes,’ Jade thought, trying to focus on anything other than the pain. It wasn’t working. The pain was making her feel sick.   After the eleventh hit, panic set in. Would it be twenty?   As he raised his arm for the twelfth time Jade caved.   “Please stop,” she whimpered.   “Please stop,” he imitated in a cruel impersonation of her voice and slapped her again.   “Pleeeeease, mercy, please!”   “And you seriously think you could stand getting your finger cut off?” Caleb scoffed before sliding her off his knee.   The fabric of her trousers felt like sandpaper as she yanked them up. Moving hurt, but she managed to get herself up onto the bed and shift into a position that lessened the burning.   “If you f**k up again, I will not show you any mercy at all,” he said. “Now get to work. If you do anything other than the task I have set for you I will know.”   Jade did her best, her level best, but her mind kept straying from the task.   ‘Caleb Hayes just spanked my ass,’ Jade thought. She couldn’t quite get over it. Every time she thought about her cheeks would redden. She pressed the flesh of her buttocks to reignite the pain as it subsided.   ‘Why did I just do that?’ Jade questioned her motives. A tingly feeling began in her fingers and spread through her body, down to her crotch. The warm, throbbing sensation was new, and while uncomfortable, she didn’t want it to stop.   As much as she tried to concentrate on the work in front of her, her mind would wander back to the spanking. The feeling of helplessness, the anticipation of the pain, the humiliation.   The throbbing between her legs returned, stronger than before.   ‘Is this what people mean when they say they are turned on?’
