Chapter 28

1555 Words

Haley spent most of the day worrying, checking her phone every couple of minutes in case Jamie had messaged.   “When I message, you answer,” he had warned. The question of when he would message and what he would say had been playing on her mind ever since. What if he messaged when Katie was by her side? Katie was one of those nosy people who would peer over as she typed, eager to know every aspect of her life, and Haley was not a convincing liar.   Across the canteen, she could see him sitting next to Caleb. He was talking as the others listened and laughed. Every so often he would touch Caleb’s arm, or poke him in the side. Oddly Caleb didn’t seem to mind, laughing and throwing Jamie a playful punch.   More girls were hanging about Caleb’s gang than normal, all making eyes at Jamie.
