Chapter 6: The Total Aggression

1600 Words
"I was waiting for you to walk into my office." Julian’s voice echoed softly through the ruined VIP booth, perfectly calm amidst the settle of dust and shattered crystal. The heavy iron barrel of the slaughterhouse butcher’s pistol was still pressed firmly into the skin of his forehead. The cold metal left a round, pale indent against his flesh, but Julian’s silver-gray eyes did not blink. The butcher sneered behind his iron mask, his thick finger applying steady pressure to the brass trigger. "You always were an arrogant bastard, Rafael. You think a fancy suit makes you invincible? You die right here, and this time, we throw you straight into the chemical vats." "You still do not understand, do you?" Julian whispered, his lips curling into a jagged, psychopathic smile. "You never controlled the room. I did." Without a fraction of a second's hesitation, Julian reached up with his right hand, gripped the heavy steel body of the butcher's pistol, and yanked it sharply downward. Instead of pulling the weapon away, he drove the cold muzzle directly against the center of his own chest, right over his freshly stitched ribs. Elena screamed in pure terror, scrambling backward into the corner of the leather booth as the iron-masked guards raised their heavy weapons. "Pull it," Julian commanded, his voice vibrating with a terrifying, wild intensity that made the butcher’s eyes widen behind his visor. "Pull the trigger and let us see who survives the aftermath." Before the confused butcher could process the sheer madness of the request, Julian’s left hand, wrapped tight in its wooden splint, slammed down onto the tiny remote concealed inside his jacket pocket. A sharp, mechanical click resonated from the bronze ceiling ventilation grates directly above their heads. Instantly, three heavy steel canisters dropped from the air ducts, hitting the marble floor of the booth with a loud clatter. High-pressure steam hissed violently as dense, acrid clouds of chemical tear gas erupted into the small space. The concentrated compound, custom-mixed by Zhea in her subterranean lab, filled the air with a blinding, agonizing green fog. The butcher gasped as the corrosive gas seeped through the intake filters of his iron mask, instantly searing his throat and blinding his eyes. He fired his weapon in panic, the loud boom of the steam pistol discharging harmlessly into the wooden floorboards. "Filter failure!" the butcher roared, coughing violently as he stumbled backward out of the booth, his hands clutching at his throat. "Shoot him! Kill him!" The three iron-masked guards fired blindly into the thick fog, their pressurized copper shotguns tearing through the velvet seats and wood paneling. But Julian was already moving. He did not dodge like a man trying to save his life; he moved like a phantom hunting in familiar darkness. The pain in his stitched thigh flared into a white-hot agony as he lunged forward, but his mind detached completely from the physical sensation. He closed the distance between himself and the nearest guard, grabbing the man’s heavy leather lapels and driving his forehead straight into the metal bridge of the guard's visor. The heavy iron mask crunched against the guard's nose, sending the man staggering back into the cloud of poison gas. Julian swept his leg around, kicking the shotgun from the second guard's hands before driving a sharp elbow into the man’s exposed throat. "He’s a demon!" the third guard screamed through his choking coughs, blindly swinging his gun stock through the green fog. Julian caught the heavy wooden stock under his arm, twisted the weapon out of the guard's grip, and used the heavy steel butt of the rifle to crack the man’s kneecap. The guard collapsed to the floor with a sickening crunch, his groans muffled by the thick smoke. Through the haze, Julian spotted Elena crouching under the shattered marble table, weeping hysterically, her hands clamped tightly over her ears. The silver bank access card sat on the velvet carpet just a few inches from her trembling fingers. Julian walked over calmly, his tailored black coat cutting through the swirling gas. He bent down, his long fingers picking up the cool silver card. He slid it carefully into his vest pocket, right beside the black-market microchip he had carried from the sewer. "The transaction is complete, Madame Vance," Julian said softly, his voice cutting clearly through the chaotic sounds of screaming patrons and alarm bells echoing from the main ballroom below. Elena looked up through her tear-filled eyes, staring at Julian in absolute shock. His face was lightly dusted with ash, his silver eyes cold and unyielding, looking down at her not with warmth, but with the terrifying majesty of a conqueror. "You... you knew they were coming," Elena gasped, her voice trembling violently as she clutched her torn silk dress. "You used me as bait." "I used everyone," Julian corrected smoothly, reaching out his gloved hand to haul her up from the floor. "And now, you are going to walk out of this club, return to your husband's estate, and pretend you never saw my face tonight." "And if I tell him?" Elena whispered, terror gripping her chest. "If I tell him you took the vault key?" Julian leaned in close, his lips brushing against her ear, his breath cold against her flushed skin. "Then I will leak the ledger containing your private offshore accounts to the press before sunrise. We are business partners now, Elena. And partners protect each other." She nodded frantically, completely broken by his overwhelming pressure, before turning to run out through the side service exit into the foggy alleyway. Julian turned back to the main booth. The butcher was on his knees near the shattered entrance, his iron mask discarded on the floor as he vomited blood and tears from the gas exposure. He looked up, his bloodshot eyes widening as he saw Julian standing over him, completely unfazed by the toxic air filling the room. Julian picked up the butcher's discarded steam pistol, checking the brass pressure gauge with a practiced glance. He walked over slowly, the heavy leather of his boots stepping on the fingers of the butcher’s right hand with cruel, deliberate force. "Wait... please, Rafael!" the butcher choked out, raising his bloody hands in a desperate plea for mercy. "The Senator paid us! We were just following orders! I can give you her private ledger! I can give you everything!" Julian looked down at the man who had carved his chest and left him to drain like an animal in the dark. He felt no anger, no satisfaction, and certainly no mercy. The human capacity for revenge had mutated into something entirely utilitarian. "My name is not Rafael," Julian said, his voice dropping into a chilling, hollow register. "And you are no longer useful." Julian raised the heavy pistol, pointing the cold muzzle directly between the butcher's eyes. "Wait! The Governor knows about the chip!" the butcher screamed, his voice cracking with pure desperation as he pressed his back against the wall. "He hired the Senator to retrieve it! You think you are playing them, but they already know you survived the sewer!" Julian paused, his finger resting lightly against the trigger. A slow, dark smile spread across his face as he absorbed the information, his mind instantly shifting the pieces on his mental chessboard. The Governor and the Senator were working together. The entire political landscape of the city was connected by the very microchip resting in his pocket. He didn't need to play defense anymore. He didn't need to run or hide in the shadows of The Gutter. He possessed the bank access card, the human trafficking records, and the dark charisma needed to manipulate every corrupt official in the metropolis. "Thank you for the clarification," Julian whispered smoothly. He pulled the trigger. The pressurized slug tore through the air, ending the butcher’s words instantly. Julian lowered the weapon, tossing it casually onto the corpse before straightening his tie. The heavy iron alarm bells of The Apex were blaring throughout the building now, accompanied by the heavy thud of private security guards rushing up the grand staircase. Red warning lights flashed through the thick green smoke, casting eerie, blood-like reflections across the ruined VIP suite. Julian walked calmly toward the grand balcony overlooking the city skyline. Below him, the vast metropolis of Neon-Sunder stretched out into the dark night, a sprawling mass of glittering spires, black steam stacks, and polluted waterways. Millions of citizens lived and died in the dark, entirely controlled by the corrupt few who sat in the high towers. He took a deep breath, feeling the sharp pull of his fresh stitches, but his posture remained impeccably straight. He had survived the butcher’s knife, the cold sewers, and the toxic gas. The era of Rafael the victim was officially over. From this moment on, he would use his body, his intellect, and his total lack of fear to tear down the ruling class and take everything they possessed. He stepped onto the balcony ledge, looking down at the alleyway where Zhea was waiting with an unmarked steam carriage. "Enjoy your peace while it lasts, gentlemen," Julian murmured to the glowing skyline, his silver eyes cold and bright against the dark night. "Because tomorrow, I am taking your money, your power, and your lives."
