Assalamu alaykum habibi ( Peace be upon you love). A melodious voice said into the phone. Hmm , wa alaykum Salam. Where are you?. Mubarak replied. Well… not home and there is something urgent. She said giggling at the other side of the line. This didn't go unnoticed by Mubarak so he played along with her. Habbibi…Zahira called again to check if he was listening. Yes…He replied. Humph…anyways , there isn't any problem, just pulling your legs. I know. He replied calmly and chuckled You… whatever. She rolled her eyes and said that she was about to go over to Khira’s school. Ayati ( my life) … be careful alright. He said and she harrumphed in response. Mubarak smiled contentedly. Alhamdullilah for my wife ( I thank Allah ). Mubarak smiled and walked into his office. A few minutes later the same number called but it wasn't the same voice. Who's this? . He asked coldly. Hello…. Mr… are you a relative of the owner of this phone. A hurried voice asked, shaking. A nearby nurse asked and quickly gestured for the stretcher to be brought. Mubarak didn't reply and kept shouting for the doctors until she was wheeled into the operating room. Tick..tick.. seconds, minutes and hours flew by and Mubarak sat hoping for the best. Click. Finally the door opened and the female doctor walked towards him. Sir. She called to get his attention . Mubarak raised his head slowly with dishevelled hair and pitch -red eyes. I am sorry… we couldn't save her. She lost too much blood and she was brought at the wrong time. He said apologetically.
