DO YOU WANT TO BE MINE

1088 Words
"I like you, Ava," Valentin said, his voice low and husky. "That's what's wrong. Only you can control that part of me that I find difficult to control." I felt a flutter in my chest as I processed his words. "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to sound calm. Valentin took a step closer to me, his eyes burning with intensity. "The lion I was talking about, Ava... it's a part of me. A part that I've been trying to keep under control for a long time." I swallowed hard, trying to understand. "And what does this have to do with me?" Valentin's gaze locked onto mine. "You calm it, Ava. You soothe the beast. When I'm around you, I feel... human again." I felt a shiver run down my spine as I realized what he was saying. "You mean, I have some kind of effect on you?" Valentin nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "A profound effect, Ava. One that I don't fully understand myself." I took a step back, trying to process this new information. What did it mean? And what did Valentin mean by "the beast"? Valentin noticed the questions all over my face, but he just smiled and said, "Go to sleep, Ava. We'll talk tomorrow." I wanted to press him for answers, but the exhaustion of the day caught up with me. I nodded, feeling a bit dazed. As I climbed into bed, Valentin turned to leave, but then hesitated. "Ava?" he said, turning back to me. "Yes?" I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. Valentin's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze intense. "Thank you," he said, his voice low and husky. "Thank you for calming the beast." I didn't know what to say, so I just nodded, feeling a bit bewildered. Valentin turned and disappeared into the night, leaving me with more questions than answers. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't imagine. The next day, Valentin couldn't stop staring at me during the whole class session. Sometimes, he would just look at me and smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. I felt like I was under a microscope, but I couldn't deny the flutter in my chest whenever our eyes met. Even during lunch break, my friends noticed the strange dynamic between us. "Ava, what's going on with you and Valentin?" Sarah asked, her curiosity piqued. "He can't take his eyes off you!" I shrugged, trying to play it cool. "I have no idea. We just talked last night, that's all." But my friends weren't buying it. "Talked about what?" Emily pressed, her eyes sparkling with intrigue. I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Just stuff," I said finally, trying to brush it off. But my friends knew me too well. They exchanged a knowing look, and I could tell they were already shipping us. As the day went on, Valentin's behavior only got more blatant. He would find excuses to touch my arm or brush against me, sending shivers down my spine. I was torn between enjoying the attention and feeling overwhelmed by the intensity of it all. What was Valentin's game, and where was this all leading? I finally worked up the courage to approach Valentin and ask him what was going on. "Valentin, can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked, trying to sound calm. He turned to me, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Of course, Ava. What's up?" I took a deep breath and asked, "What's going on with you? You've been acting really strange today." Valentin shrugged, his smile never wavering. "I don't know what you're talking about." I frowned, frustrated. "Don't play dumb, Valentin. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Last night, the way you've been looking at me today... what's going on?" Valentin's expression turned serious, and he took a step closer to me. "Forget about last night, Ava," he said, his voice low and husky. "It didn't mean anything." I felt a sting of rejection, but then he asked me a question that left me breathless. "Do you want to be mine?" he asked, his eyes burning with intensity. "Because I want you, Ava. I want you in a way that I've never wanted anyone before." I was taken aback, unsure of how to respond. What did he mean by "mine"? And why did the idea send a thrill through me? "What are you saying? You're scaring me," I said, trying to take a step back, but my feet felt rooted to the spot. Valentin's smile faltered for a moment, before he asked, "Is that not how to ask a girl out after telling her you like her?" I was shocked, my mind racing to catch up. "You mean... you want me to be your girlfriend?" I stammered. Valentin nodded his head, still smiling. "Yes, Ava. I want you to be mine. I want to be with you, to explore this... thing between us." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. No one had ever asked me out like that before, with such intensity and possessiveness. "Ava?" Valentin prompted, his eyes searching mine. "Will you be mine?" I couldn't speak, couldn't think. All I could do was stare at him, my heart racing with excitement and fear. And then, without thinking, I nodded. "No, definitely no," I told him, trying to sound firm despite the trembling in my voice. Valentin's face fell, but I could see the hint of a smile still playing on his lips. I whispered in his ear, "You're a vampire, and I'm a human. I don't think it will work out." His eyes widened in surprise, but he didn't pull away. Instead, he leaned in closer, his breath cold against my ear. "I know what I am, Ava," he whispered back. "And I know what you are. But I can't help how I feel." I felt a shiver run down my spine as his words sent a thrill through me. But I knew I had to be strong. I pushed him away and ran off to my room, locking the door behind me. I leaned against the door, trying to catch my breath. What was I getting myself into? I thought, my mind racing with questions. But as I looked around my room, I couldn't shake the feeling that Valentin was still out there, watching me, waiting for me.
