The Name Hidden in the System

725 Words
Night had begun settling over Heroes Academy when the black convoy finally returned. The armored vehicles sped through the massive academy gates before descending toward the underground Technical Department. Bright scanner lights swept across the convoy as security systems identified the vehicles instantly. ACCESS GRANTED. Massive steel doors slowly opened. The convoy rolled inside. Moments later— The vehicles came to a halt. Doors opened immediately. Merson stepped out first. Schizzel followed behind him while Kaiden exited the vehicle already holding his tablet tightly. None of them looked relaxed. None of them spoke. The atmosphere around them felt tense. Armed guards spread out behind them as the three walked briskly through the glowing halls of the Technical Department. Staff members immediately straightened upon seeing them. “Welcome, sir.” “Welcome, ma.” “Good evening, sir.” Merson only nodded once. Schizzel walked quickly beside him while Kaiden moved ahead impatiently. They entered the main command center. Inside, dozens of technicians worked across holographic monitors and floating digital screens. The moment the room noticed them— Everyone stood straighter. “Welcome, sirs.” “Welcome, ma.” Kaiden wasted no time. “I’m sending a database,” he said sharply. “Run it through the central system immediately.” “Yes, sir.” The technicians instantly got to work. Keyboards clacked rapidly. Screens activated. Holograms flickered across the room. Kaiden uploaded the orphanage database directly into the system. One of the analysts adjusted his glasses while scanning the incoming files. “Database received, sir.” He looked up. “What exactly are we searching for?” Merson stepped forward slowly. “T.L.” The room became quieter. “Find her registration records,” Merson continued. “And whoever signed her into Starhaven Orphanage.” “Yes, sir.” The analyst immediately began typing. On the giant monitor ahead of them, hundreds of names began flipping rapidly across the screen. Data streams. Old records. Guardian files. Registration logs. The system scanned through everything at incredible speed. Schizzel folded her arms tightly. Kaiden stared intensely at the monitor. Merson remained completely still. Then— The screen suddenly stopped. MATCH FOUND A student profile appeared. T.L Below it— Guardian Registration: MIRABEL FOSTER Silence. Absolute silence. Kaiden blinked slowly. “…What?” Schizzel’s eyes widened instantly. Merson stared at the screen without moving. Because they all knew that name. Mirabel Foster. The wife of William Foster. The Overseer of Heroes Academy. Their boss. The most powerful authority connected to the Heroes system. A man so important that very few people were ever allowed inside his office. Even high-ranking heroes rarely met him face to face. And now— His wife’s name was attached to T.L’s orphanage records. Kaiden slowly turned toward the others. “This… makes no sense.” Schizzel stepped closer to the monitor. “No…” Her voice lowered. “It can’t.” Questions immediately exploded through their minds. Why would Mirabel Foster personally sign T.L into an orphanage? Was T.L secretly their daughter? But that was impossible. If T.L was truly William and Mirabel’s child— They would have known. Everyone in the academy knew about Lena Foster. Lena was openly recognized as their daughter. So why hide T.L? Why abandon her? Why keep her existence secret? Unless— Kaiden spoke the thought none of them wanted to say aloud. “What if T.L isn’t their child…” Merson slowly looked at him. “…then where did they get her from?” Kaiden finished quietly. The room suddenly felt colder. Schizzel’s breathing slowed. The questions only became darker. Who exactly was T.L? And why was one of the most powerful families in Heroes Academy connected to her? One of the technicians looked up nervously. “Sir…” He glanced between them carefully. “Is there… a problem?” Merson immediately straightened. “No.” His voice returned calm again. “No problem.” But even he knew that was a lie. He slowly turned toward Schizzel and Kaiden. His expression hardened. “I think,” he said carefully, “it’s time we see our boss.” Face to face. Schizzel nodded slowly. Kaiden gave a serious nod too. Because for the first time since T.L disappeared— They finally had a lead. And it led directly to the most powerful man in Heroes Academy.
