A storm raged outside the castle walls as a woman with raven black hair screamed in agony. The women around her tried to soothe her through each contraction. It wasn’t time yet. Her child was begging to be brought into the world, but the whole room feared what would occur should the baby come tonight of all nights. For tonight, the moon above them was powerful. A dark moon. Only half of the moon is seen to the naked eye while the other is shrouded in the night sky.
The woman continued to wail in pain, but the pressure was too much. Her will stretched far beyond its limits and her eyes almost completely changed as she growled at the nurses around her.
“Call my husband. The baby is coming NOW?!” She screeched.
One of the nurses bowed quickly before dashing out the doors down the hall to her master’s study. She knocked aggressively on the wooden door and was greeted by a pair of unfamiliar eyes. The woman before her gazed at her with deep scrutiny. Her golden orbs shining like liquid coins. The nurse stood there frozen in place; her mind lost in the depths of the woman’s eyes.
“Ethan, I believe this young lady wishes to have a word with you.” The woman’s silky voice caused goosebumps to break out over the nurse's skin.
Breaking her trance, a man with silver and black hair and darky stormy grey eyes barked at her.
“Rae! Focus!”
“I apologize Master Deviro, but your wife is in labor and the baby is coming tonight! Right now!”
Rae shook her head to clear the fog of her mind and her urgency to get Sir Deviro to his wife returned.
“Rae go ahead of us and make sure Lily is alright. Tell her to hold on until I get there.”
With a nod, Rae dashed back down the hall to her Mistress. Ethan turned his attention to the golden-eyed woman beside him.
“Lyra will you keep your word?”
“ I will help your mate Ethan, but my debt to you ends with this promise.”
“Understood.”
In silent agreement, the pair make their way down the hall and enter Lily’s bedroom just in time. Her entire aura has changed. The pull of the Dark Moon heightening her pain and tempting her to change. Her eyes were slits as dark as her hair. She reached for Ethan and he rushes to her side, taking her hand in his own. Lyra coles the doors to the room and stands at Lily’s feet waiting for the baby.
Finally Lily let out a howl deep from within her, and her final push revealed her baby boy. As the nurses moved to cut the cord and clean the baby, Lyra looked to Ethan and he nodded to signal her. Without fail, Lyra’s eyes began to glow a molten gold and her dress became suspended around her. The nurses froze and the one holding the baby moved to cover him, but there was nothing she could do. Lyra uttered a few words in a language unknown and the baby began to cry even more. When her incantation was complete, the nurse was shocked to find not one, but two baby boys in her arms. One with hair as white as snow and eyes the color of blood. The other with midnight black hair and eyes as cold as sterling silver.
The nurse brought both boys to their parents and Lily steadily regain some strength to see two boys before her. With clear vision, she sees Lyra at her feet. She turned to Ethan and his eyes said all she needed to know. Clutching her babies close, Lily looked to Lyra for clarity.
“What now?”She asked weakly.
“Your child has been born under a very powerful Dark Moon. The children you see are not two, but one. They will possess magic and abilities far greater than even their ancestors. It is because of this that I separated his soul even his wolf has been separated. Your son will need a strong mate to keep him in balance. I warn you his two sides can never be near each other until their mate is found. If so, there are beings that would see him destroyed or will use him to destroy others. Each of you must take a child and separate until they come of age.”
Lily and Ethan stared at their sons/ son heartbroken but understood.
“How will they find their mate while apart?”
“Have faith Lily they will have both of you to help guide them and the Fates always have a plan.”
Lily felt tears well up in her eyes. How could she choose between her sons? What mother could? She shook her head and kissed them both as they snuggled close to her. Ethan lifted her tear stricken face and kissed his sons as well.
“My love. We must choose quickly. They are not safe together.”
“What do we do about names? We only chose one.”
“They will share one.”
“Christian Alexander Deviro.”
Ethan turned to the child whose hair was snow white and ruby eyes.
“Alec. I will take him.”
Lily looked down at the child who’s hair matched hers and adored the silver of his eyes.
“Christian. I will care for him.”
Lyra walked to Ethan and rushed the couple.
“Ethan we do not have time. Both of you must go. I will help Lily and the nurses escape. You and Alec must go. Now!”
Ethan wrapped his son in a blanket and kissed Christian on the head. When he got to Lily, his heart ached knowing he had to leave his mate and son, so he kissed her and filled every second with years of passion. He swore they would be reunited and flew out the door with his infant son in his arms.
Lyra turned to the nurses and rushed them to dress Lily and wrap the baby in a blanket. Lyra would have to hide them well if they were to survive. Just as Lyra got everyone down into the hidden tunnels, they heard the sound of glass breaking. They escaped just in time. She only hoped that Ethan had been as lucky. Her mind on Lily and Christian, she magically sealed the door behind them, and together they disappeared into the night.
Ethan tied Alec to his chest and ran with purpose. He could not shift with his son on his body, but that did not inhibit his speed much. When he reached the woods, he turned to see his home ablaze. His rage turning his eyes a molten silver instead of grey. The sound of his son crying brought him back as he turned away to dash deep into the woods. Upon reaching a clearing, he removed the covering of a black suburban and jumped inside. The vehicle roared to life and he peeled away trying not to focus on his concern for Lily. he prayed to the Fates that she and Christian were alright.
