Xander Ryker laughed, the sound oddly out of place in a room like this. I watched him from across the table. He didn't seem bothered by the tension hanging in the air. Leaning forward in his chair, the smile never leaving his face, he pointed at me as though I were the punchline to a joke. “The great Xander Hale,” he said. “The man who can end a life without lifting a finger... tried to be funny?” My stare hardened, but his smile only widened.
