"What?! Your mate?!" Vincent's face twisted into a grimace, completely shocked. Well, who wouldn't be? However, the grimace quickly faded from his face, and he nodded, clearing his throat. "Oh, wait for me here... I'm coming, okay?" he said in a hurried manner, as if he needed to go somewhere. I nodded my head and then he left. I sighed and reclined against a pole nearby. Just a few hours earlier I had felt happy coming to this school, but now it felt like coming here had been a wrong choice. Is it really so bad to be mated to an omega? Can't an omega hope for love too? Is it wrong for an omega to get mated, just because we are considered weak and can't fight? That does not give anyone the excuse to reject their omega mate! I hung my head, feeling a bit saddened, as I walked back to class. I checked the time and saw that the lycanthropy class had already ended. Unlucky me. Shrugging, I took a bite of the pizza I'd bought on my way to school from my bag. Savoring the taste, I closed my eyes. I guess that was a grave mistake as suddenly, someone smacked my hands, causing the pizza to go flying. My eyes opened instantly, and I saw that the pizza had hit a girl in the face. "Oh my God, I'm sorry," I quickly apologized, but her reaction was nowhere near forgiving. "Ugh, my face!" She screamed, holding her face smashed with the pizza. Her heavy makeup was totally ruined. "You b***h! Are you blind or something? Filthy mutt!" She lashed out aggressively at me. I studied her face well and realized it was the same girl everyone was praising earlier as she passed the hallway. The girl who dates the popular guy in Nightfall. I really wonder who he was. Although I was apologetic, I couldn't tolerate her insults. "I'm not a mutt. Please mind your language," I shot back. However, this only angered her further as she slapped me, causing me to fall. "Oh, really? You've gat nerves, haven't you? You just ruined my face with that filthy pizza!" she yelled as onlookers watched, some praising her actions. She grabbed my hair, slamming my head against a locker. Then she realized something, chuckling in shock. "I knew it, you're an omega! Am I right?" she said, tightening her grip on my hair as I struggled helplessly. "Yes, and so f*****g what?!" I bellowed, angry. But it felt like my words were a joke as everyone began to laugh, including her. Suddenly, I felt myself being pulled by someone on my left, my face landing on that person's chest. "Enough, Rosa!" The voice sounded familiar, and then I realized it belonged to Mike. When I looked up, I saw that it was truly him standing there, or was it only a dream? Rosa froze, shocked by his actions. "Mike?" Her voice softened. "Why would save this disgusting omega!" she exclaimed. My brows gathered. What am I missing? Is he her boyfriend? Her expression hardened as she turned to me. "And will you get your f*****g self off him!" she tried fruitlessly to remove his tight grip, but it was too strong. Exasperated, she balled her hands into fists. Unexpectedly, he took my hand and we walked away from her. I shuddered, knowing she would scheme revenge. But still, I felt relieved, secretly excited he had saved me. Does that mean he was ready to take back all he said about rejecting me? I could be true, after all, even in front of his girlfriend, he had saved me. We went outside and suddenly he yanked his hands off mine, putting it in his pockets. I froze. He suddenly turned cold. "Thanks..." I tried to say. "Don't think I saved you, miss. I just don't want you annoying my girlfriend, who despises omegas like you," he said and left, leaving me pierced by his cruel words. Once again, I was foolish to think he saved me because he regretted rejecting me. I need to accept the fact that he will never love me, no matter what. At the very least, he should have considered how much it would hurt me. How cruel of him. I heard my name called from behind and turned around and saw Kate coming towards me. I waited for her as she held my hands. She noticed the expression on my face. "Hey! Why the long face? What's going on?" she asked. "You know, just got rejected by my mate because I'm an omega," I lamented. She hissed in response. "So what if you're an omega? That doesn't give him the right to look down on you! And who is he?" she asked as I sighed, thinking how she'd react if I told her his name. "Mike," I responded. She stopped walking and covered her mouth with her hands, definitely surprised. "Rosa will make your life miserable if she finds out. That's probably why he wants to reject you," she said. "It still hurts, Kate," I said softly, my voice wavering. She smiled and drew me closer, hugging me. "It's okay, I'll support you," she said some comforting words as I nodded. Then we walked into the library, which stored many books about lycanthropy. I wished I could easily take one back to the hostel to read in my free time. Perhaps an accountant is what I truly want to become in the future, but I also need to know more about supernatural creatures. I saw Vincent in another shelf, also looking for books to read. I smiled and looked for mine on that shelf. "Have you joined a pack yet?" he asked, taking me by surprise while I was going through books. He took one out and looked at me through the hole. I shook my head to indicate I understood what he meant. Then he came over to me, took my hand and led me out of the huge library. I really wondered where we were going. I didn't see Kate to tell her about this. "Where are we off to?" I asked as we kept walking into the school building - a long walk from the library. I noticed how some students laughed while others looked at me in disgust. I averted my eyes, getting pissed off. After the embarrassment Rosa caused me, I had really planned to hide the fact that I'm an omega but it seems that's no longer possible - everyone already knew. We stopped at the counselor's office where I saw the inscription. Vincent opened the door and we entered. A lady was working inside. "Ma'am, greetings," I said and lowered my head. She smiled. "You look like a new student, have you sworn into a pack yet?" she inquired. I shook my head. "Not yet," I responded. She handed me some papers. "For an omega like you, I would advise you join into the Diamond Crescent Pack where you can receive thorough training and learn how to control your shifting," she suggested. I nodded, hoping it was Kate's pack. Damn, I should have asked what her pack was if I knew. I turned and saw Vincent smiling at me. I pricked my thumb with a needle to draw blood, then signed the papers placing my thumbprint. I indicated my name Jane, accepting to join the Diamond Crescent pack. When I was done, I handed it to her and she gave me a thumbs up. However, the pack name sounded familiar like I had heard it before. "Your training with the pack will begin after the full moon," she said. I nodded and then left her office with Vincent. He stretched out his hands towards me with a smile on his face. "Welcome to my pack. Training begins tomorrow with the alpha and pack members." "So you're the alpha?" I asked, shaking his hands. But he shook his head. "No, the alpha of the pack is Mike Robert, my stepbrother," he revealed. My eyes widened as I suddenly remembered Mike's words when he rejected me. Jeez, he won't find it funny, he would probably think I'd forced my way into his pack just because I knew he was the alpha. No way, I'm not that desperate for him. I need to withdraw from the pack by any means!
