Chapter 2

Rhea I blinked, forcing myself to snap out of it. Whatever that was just now... that strange feeling... I pushed it away and straightened. I cleared my throat. "Um...thank-" "Rhea." My brows furrowed hearing my name come out of his mouth. Wait...How did he know my name? I looked at him from head down. He somehow had that intimidating aura. One hand was tucked into his pocket, the other hanging loosely by his side as he stood like he owned the space. Something wasn't quite right here. He lifted his hand. The men behind him stepped back at once, leaving just the two of us. My eyes caught sight of the black car and the bikes surrounding it. "Your father," he started, in a voice too deep that sent chills down my body for a reason I couldn't explain, "Took my money." His eyes stayed on mine. "And you... his daughter... are going to tell me where he is." For a second, I just stared at him. Then I laughed. A loud, sharp laugh. "My father?" I repeated. It seems they got the wrong person. The same man I hadn't seen in years? The one who woke up one day and just left like I meant nothing? And now, after everything that just happened tonight... after walking in on my boyfriend and my best friend, someone was standing in front of me saying that man stole money? "You've got the wrong person. I don't know him. I don't know anything about that." I paused, then added flatly, "I don't have a father." His gaze didn't change. Not even a flicker. His expression gave away that he did not believe me. "Rhea Carter," he said. "Your father, Carter Kelvin, has defrauded my club." What in the world...Annoyance rose fast. "Are you deaf?" I snapped. "I just said I don't know that man. Whatever he did has nothing to do with me." I meant it. I didn't care what my father had done. I had stopped caring a long time ago. I had already accepted it... I was alone in this world. Whether he was alive or not didn't change anything. I turned to leave. But I didn't even get two steps before he moved, blocking my path. My jaw tightened. "What is this? Are you planning on using force?" His expression didn’t change. “I don’t need force. But keeping you around might get me what I want.” A bitter laugh escaped me. “So that’s your plan?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest. “Keep me locked up somewhere and hope my father suddenly grows a conscience and comes looking for me?” I shook my head. “No. He won’t.” And I meant every word. That man had disappeared from my life long before today. If he cared enough to come back, he would have done that already. “You’ll know once I try,” he replied, his voice calm enough to annoy me even more. I looked away from him, exhaling. My life was already falling apart anyway. A suffocating job. A boss who treated me like trash every chance he got. A cheating boyfriend and a fake best friend. Honestly… what exactly was waiting for me back there? Nothing. I rubbed my forehead tiredly before looking back at him. “So if I agree to help, that means I am going to go with you?” One of his brows lifted. That alone was answer enough. My eyes drifted to the men. The bikes. And him. This whole thing practically screamed danger. But strangely enough… staying behind didn’t feel any safer either. At least this was different. Movement. Something that wasn’t the same miserable routine I had been dragging myself through every day. “Fine, I’ll help you. But I need time. I don’t know where to start, and I’m not going to lie about that.” He didn’t answer. He just kept looking at me with those piercing eyes that somehow made my heartbeat feel uneven. "Let's go." He said turning and started walking toward his car, and I followed behind him. The car door was opened for me. I stopped for a second. This was crazy. Everything about tonight was crazy. I let out a quiet breath and stepped into the car. Maybe this was a way out. A fresh start. A strange one, yes. But still... something different. He got in after me, sitting beside me and the door was shut. Through the window, I watched the others ride off on their bikes, engines loud, disappearing into the night like shadows. I leaned back on the seat and closed my eyes, trying to think of how the hell I was supposed to help them find my so called father. Thinking about him alone made something twist inside me. Anger and resentment. "Arh—" I yelped as the car suddenly swerved, my body slipping hard to the side. A firm hand caught my arm, pulling me back and holding me steady before I could slam into the door. My heart slammed against my chest, fast and loud. Our bodies were closer, his hand around my arm, my balance depending on him. And those deep eyes of him held mine. Damn if that didn't make my skin tingle. Get your s**t together Rhea! A voice in my head reminded. And that was enough to snap me out of it. I pulled away sharply like I had been burned. "What's wrong with you? You don't just grab people...like that." I said shooting him a glare. He didn't even flinch. His hand dropped calmly to his side like he didn't make my heart raced so loudly inside. "You were about to hit the door," he said, in a low tone. "I would've handled it," I shot back immediately, folding my arms. His eyes met mine, calm as ever. "Then handle it next time." I scoffed, turning my face away. "I didn't ask for your help." "Clearly," he replied, not sounding bothered at all. "But you still needed it." That only made my irritation rise. "Or maybe," he added after a second, "You should learn to say thank you." I let out a dry laugh. "Don't expect that from me." Silence then fell. I stayed far away, staring out the window, my jaw tight, refusing to look at him again. The rest of the ride passed without another word. Eventually, the car slowed down and came to a stop. I opened my eyes properly and looked outside. The place was nothing like where I had just come from. Bikes were parked around, men moving in and out. Well...Not bad. The door opened, and I stepped out slowly, taking everything in. He didn't even waste time and started walking ahead. I hissed at his back before following suit. He sure knows how to annoy someone. Men glanced at me as we passed, some curious, some just watching. We passed by a corridor and stopped in front of a door. He opened it revealing a room and stepping inside. "This is where you'll stay," I frowned, following suit and looking around. "You will stay here. Until you give me something useful." I let out a small scoff, "You really think I have answers just waiting for you?" "That's your problem to solve," he said. Oh now he's being very rude. Where was the calmness? I turned to say snap at him, but the door was shut. Right in my face. I stood there for a second, staring at it. Then I let out a frustrated laugh, running a hand through my hair. "This man has got to be kidding me..."
