Chapter 8: Werewolves On The Ship!

1735 Words
Chapter 8 Three minutes ago… Caramella is getting fed up with Darius who kept on teasing her with compliments. “Ugh, why are you even here” she crossed her arms grumpily like a child, really annoyed at Darius. “Well, this is my party” Darius raised his hand and beckoned a waiter who was holding a tray of wine professionally. “Your party?” Caramella did a double take, “Wh-what do you mean by that?” Darius raised a brow, “This party is a treat for the Avagoth clan’s success in constructing a new hotel and resort by the island nearby where the ship is currently heading. All of the guests here are invited to the opening of the island. And all of that success is all thanks to my hard work” he explained before grabbing a wine glass from the waiter that he called earlier. The waiter bowed, his sharp eyes lingering on Caramella for a long while before leaving. Caramella felt a suspicious smell on the waiter, something like a Lycan’s but different… ‘...A werewolf? I didn’t know werewolves who are weak near water can work in a ship’ she was just thinking about it when Darius cut her thoughts off. “If you didn’t know about this party. How come you are here?” Darius asked, now squinting at her suspiciously. Caramella held up her hands over her chest in defense, “Promise you I am here via an invitation. Its from a regular at work, just handed me the invitation and told me that he can’t come so~ Here I am with Oliver, hehe…he” she scratched the back of her head. Darius looked at her with a deadpan expression, ‘She’s really bad at lying’ “Okay, then what is the name of this man that gave you the invitation?” Darius swirled the wine in his cup, “Just so you know, I memorized every family name in this cruise ship” Caramella started sweating. She swallowed and her eyes, which were avoiding Darius’ suspicious gaze, landed on Oliver who was talking to Victor. “Uh…well” she swallowed again, ‘What should I tell him? That I climbed in the ship like a loose gorilla? Or should I guess a common family name and hope they aren’t here right now?’ her head started overheating, ‘Agh! I shouldn’t have bumped into him! I should have been more cautious!’ That’s when the perfect explosion occurred. BOOM! An explosion just a floor beneath them. … The luxurious cruiser ship shook very violently, making the passengers fall, trip or dive straight to the ocean. There were screams everywhere and injured people were screaming for help. There is a thick black smoke coming from below the ship, spreading to the top of the ship and blinding those that are exactly on top of the explosion. Cough! Cough! Caramella coughed violently, as she grabbed on the metal railing of the ship that is still intact. She is surrounded by black smoke and couldn’t see anything twelve inches in front of her. All she can see is smoke. “Olie!” she screamed in panic, still gripping the railings tight since it's the only thing that can guide her at the moment, “Oliver!” Her screaming was drowned with the other people screaming louder, shrieking in pain or howling in despair. She can hear some gunshots too, although it is far from her position, it makes her worry more about Oliver who was separated from her. “Oliver! Please answer mommy! Oliver!” she cried out louder, “Oliver!” The floor under her feet is starting to heat up, meaning that there might be fire underneath the floor. She cursed and followed the railings towards where Darius is supposed to be standing, on her left. “Darius! Oliver!” she called out, “Victor!” Her Lycan senses are not working in the smoke. Not her super vision, not her wolf nose and not even her sense of danger. She felt lost in all of that smoke and chaos. ‘Please Oliver, please be alright’ she prayed. After a few steps on the left, she almost tripped and fell when she realized that there is no flooring underneath her right foot. Caramella grabbed onto the broken railing to stop herself from falling and used her strength to climb out of the supposed hole, where the thick black smoke is probably coming from. She tried to look down the hole and saw something flashing. A blaring purple light. ‘This smoke is not normal’ She frowned, ‘Smoke from burning wood would not cause my senses to weaken. There must be something mixed in to this smoke’ “Carmilla!” Someone called her from outside of the smoke. She whipped her head towards the source of the voice that uttered her Lycan name. ‘That’s definitely Victor’s voice. How can he know my Lycan name?’ she thought with a deep frown. “Mommy! We are here!” Then she heard Oliver’s scream. Caramella felt like the cogs in her head started turning again, and finally realized why she was so suspicious about Victor. He looks Russian but she didn’t ask him because she thought that it would be rude. But now that she remembered what the large Siberian wolf with green eyes looks like in his human form…even though she only managed to get to see it for a split second. Victor does look like the Lycan that is following her Aunt Deserie. “Victor!” she exclaimed angrily, “You-!” she was about to scream when Victor cut her off from a distance. “Wait! I know that you are suspicious of me, Carmilla! But trust me, I have Oliver with me and I promise not to hurt him!” Caramella let go of the railings, her only guide to the smoke, “You better not! Or I’ll pluck your eyes out!” she threatened. “I will take care of Oliver for now. There is a war happening right now so make sure to stay safe!” Victor said with genuine worry in his voice. “Where will you be taking my son!” “I-I’m not sure either. But I know you’ll be able to detect Oliver’s scent so just follow it. I’ll make sure to explain everything to you after we meet!” Woosh! A stray bullet almost hit Caramella but her dulled senses helped her dodge at the last second. “....Okay, GO! Make sure to keep Oliver safe!” she exclaimed, afraid for her son who might get left behind in all the chaos if Victor were to leave him. “Next time! Call me uncle!” she heard Victor’s retreating voice. Caramella frowned at that statement, ‘Uncle? I don’t remember him being my uncle’ All of the sudden, a large hand grabbed her by the arm, making her scream. Her instincts kicked in and with her black high heels, she tried to slam her foot on the person’s face who was holding her arm firmly. Her kick was grabbed too. “Calm down, it's me” Darius appeared from the black smoke with a calm but serious face, “Come on, let's get out of this smoke” he said. Caramella was quite embarrassed by her intense instinct. She didn’t notice that Darius was holding her by the hand as he lead the way out of the smoke. “I didn’t know you, a human Omega, can execute such an instinct” Darius said and Caramella can almost hear the smirk in his words. ‘This Alpha really wants to expose me as a Lycan…’ she thought, glaring at his back as she was being dragged through the smoke. “Well, I am a black belt in Taekwondo and I also learned how to box” Caramella said proudly, stepping over a rubble from the explosion. After a short minute, they are finally out of the smoke. Caramella coughed a couple times, blinking the smoke out of her watery eyes. Of course it is painful for her to open her eyes in that thick smoke, but her Lycan upgrade helped her to keep her eyes shut even with the pain. She just hoped that Darius didn’t notice that while they were inside the smoke, or else he might deduce that she really is a Lycan. “Uwaah!” Bang! Bang! Caramella’s ears rang for a moment when she heard loud gunshots. She focused on the chaos in front of her and her jaw fell at the war that is happening in front of her. The smell of blood, gunpowder and chaotic pheromones blaster her nostrils. Her heart started pounding very fast as adrenaline pumped in and her worries only intensified. “Oliver!” she cried, “I have to find him!” Darius pulled her arm when she tried to leave, making her growl in pain. “What the-” Swish! Bang! Another bullet almost hit her but Darius pulled him in time. Her eyes widened in shock. “Duck” Darius pulled him low, “We need a plan” Caramella did as she was told, ducking her head under a metal debris that was stuck on the floor. Her heart is still pounding and her head is still filled with her son’s safety and where Victor might have taken him. ‘Oh god, I left my son with someone from the clan’ she thought, now realizing how stupid of her to willingly hand her Oliver to someone she barely met, ‘But I have no choice, I have to trust Victor not to hurt Oliver. And even if Victor did take Oliver back to the Azanthus clan, then at least Oliver is safe’ Darius squeezed her hand. Caramella looked down and was frozen when she realized that they were still holding hands together. She quickly took her hand off from Darius’ hand. “If you continue frowning like that, you’ll grow up with more wrinkles” Darius teased, “Calm down, Ms. Sugar. We’ll find him” Caramella elbowed him, “Will you stop teasing me, I’m already at my wits end” she said before biting down her lower lip. ‘Please be safe Oliver. I will be there soon. Mommy will be there soon’
