【Chapter 8】: Edward's Plan

1009 Words
"How did you know about my pregnancy?" Those were Sofia's first words after they met. Edward was not in a hurry to answer. He lowered his head, staring at the wine glass before him, the deep red liquid emitting a rich aroma. He reached out and took the glass, then tilted his head back and drank it all. Immediately, he fixed his gaze on Sofia and said heavily, "Sofia, let me help you!" Sofia's eyes lit up but quickly dimmed again, like a shooting star crossing the sky, with only a second of brilliance, followed by a long period of darkness. "Edward, I have made it clear; I don't want to be involved with you anymore." "Don't you want to seize such a good opportunity?" Edward abruptly interrupted her, his tone filled with urgency and anger: "Tell William about the pregnancy, but you must say that the child is mine, understand?" Sofia stood there, somewhat understanding and somewhat confused. How could this be possible? Edward looked around and lowered his voice, "People like William are very concerned about faces. He won't keep you around if he finds out you've given him a green hat. " "Edward, you're thinking too simply. A person like William would do a thorough investigation, and besides, even if he believed, he wouldn't easily let us off the hook when faced with such a matter." Sofia said. Edward told her not to worry. His aunt had just transferred to a public hospital two months ago, the very doctor who treated her that day. Because she had seen Sofia's photo, she finally remembered and called Edward. The more Sofia thought about it, the more ridiculous she felt. The world is too small; no matter where she goes, she always encounters someone she knows. Although it was already March, the cool breeze still chilled Sofia, and she shivered with the cold. Her face was evil, and her spirit was in a trance. When she came to an intersection, she forgot to look up at the traffic light and walked straight toward the red light. The car horn screeched, but she didn't react until someone jerked her back. She was startled, but her eyes were not completely clear, and she looked behind her blankly. It was William, someone who shouldn't be here. Sofia thought she was hallucinating, closed her eyes, and opened them again, but the person she saw was still him, so clear and three-dimensional. William looked at her, too, from top to bottom. His eyes were cold, and looking at him like that made her feel like she was freezing inch by inch. But behind the coldness, other emotions, such as anger, love, and fear, seem hidden. "You..." Her words were cut off before she could finish as William lifted her in his arms, his actions appearing rough and impatient. Yet, Sofia inexplicably felt a touch of gentleness. It was probably because she was in a trance, so his authority and rudeness felt gentle like water. There was also a person in the car—assistant Jack and Sofia had seen him a few times, so he recognized her. "Ma'am." As soon as she got in the car, Jack greeted her respectfully. Sofia nodded in a daze and sat motionless. The person next to her was highly irritable. He raised his hand and pulled the tie around his neck, then unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, still feeling very uncomfortable. Suddenly, he turned his head, stared at Sofia, and asked, almost angrily, "Don't you know that you have to look at the traffic lights when crossing the street?" God knows that just now, he saw her on the road walking forward in the traffic, and he was so frightened that his heart was about to stop! He told Jack to honk his horn to warn her, but she still didn't respond, so he had to rush over and pull her out of the danger zone. Sofia was still at a loss. She felt her brain tangled and couldn't figure out what was happening. But the fire in William's heart burned more and more, and he gritted his teeth and said, "How dangerous it was just now, don't you know?" What if the car crashed into you? " A collision? A sudden flash of those car accident scenes was seen on TV, and Sofia suddenly woke up; simultaneously, out of maternal instinct, her hands unconsciously protected her belly. William's gaze followed downwards. He furrowed his brow and asked, "Are you uncomfortable in your stomach?" Sofia shook her head, but her eyes were more confused. Then she nodded, "The dish just now was too spicy, and it's a bit hard for me to get used to." "Did you have dinner at that restaurant?" William pointed to the restaurant where she had just met Edward and asked. Sofia nodded, a hint of guilt flickering in her eyes. William's lips curled slightly, his smile unsettling, "Didn't you know that I'm a shareholder in that restaurant? They don't serve spicy dishes there! Are you going there for the first time? " He calmly and mercilessly exposed her feeble lie, and the smile on his face became increasingly terrifying. Sofia tightly clutched at the hem of her clothes, her mind racing as she tried to devise a more suitable reason or perhaps an excuse. However, there are none. The more anxious one becomes, the more blank one's mind feels, starting with just a tiny part and eventually leaving the entire head blank. But what made her even more strange was why William was here now. Isn't he supposed to be in the EC Group? If he's free, shouldn't he be with his sweetheart, Cathy? The phone in her bag rang, and Sofia took it out to look at it. She was so frightened by the number on it that she almost threw it out. William frowned and turned his gaze and only glanced at the person's name, huh! Edward? They stick together like shadows! William angrily turned away his gaze.
