UNFORTUNATELY, HELEN has to work Sunday, so she’s not at Mass that morning. She promises, however, that she’ll be at the Mansion “with bells on,” as she put it. “I haven’t heard you this excited since our engagement,” I tell her on the phone after Mass. “I’m just so looking forward to dressing in our costumes,” she says. I roll my eyes. “Well, my darling, that makes one of us.” “Oh, Tom,” she says with a pouting tone, “are you going to be grumpy all night because of this?” I sigh. “No. Of course not. Unless, of course, I’m supposed to be Grumpy from Snow White.” She laughs. “I assure you, it’s not that.” “And you still won’t tell me?” “OK, I’ll give you a hint. Everyone who sees it will say it suits you perfectly.” After I hang up, I go back to the Rectory, eat the lunch Anna prep
