Six ON TUESDAY, HELEN IS able to join me for my hospital visits. We’ve talked often about what her role in the parish should be, given the demands of being Chief of Police, even in a town the size of Myerton. The two of us agree that her primary role in the parish, as my wife, will be supporting me in my different ministries. So, she joins me in greeting parishioners after Sunday Mass. When she can, like today, she joins me at the hospital. There are nursing home and shut-in visits on Wednesdays, and she’s come along a couple of times. Helen can be very patient and gentle when dealing with someone who is suffering or in pain, empathy drawn from her own experience.
