THE DAY IS SO NICE after Noon Mass and lunch that I decide to go ahead and take Martin’s advice and take a bike ride. Helen texted me earlier and said she couldn’t make lunch, because she had a conference call with other Chiefs of Police in the area. So I pull the bike out of the garage and dust off the cycling helmet that Helen bought me. I’m wearing my clericals, but the sun is bright enough that I’m sure cars can see me. Being a college town, Myerton has an excellent system of designated bike lanes and bike paths. Drivers are used to students sharing the road with them, and I cannot remember the last time there was a serious accident involving a cyclist and a car.
