Chapter Four- Discovery

1288 Words
Luke POV I make my way over to the hidden entrance, ashamed of what I have done and wanted to repent and make it up to Abbie. But when I get there I am surprised, the door to the dungeons is wide open and I hear screams coming from inside the dungeons. That shouldn’t be. Get in there now! My wolf growls at me. I do not have to be told twice, I make my way quickly and quietly down the steps and into the main part of the dungeon where I see Abbie’s cell door open and her screams filling the corridor. Her screams are ear piercing so I can only guess at what has been going on. As I get closer the smell of burnt flesh fills the corridor and my nose, almost making me blanch at the smell. Whatever has happened here is bad. I walk into one hell of a sight, Abbie is laying on the floor with Max hovering over her. His trousers by his ankles and he looks to be mid thrust. Oh dear goddess, please no! I beg the moon goddess. Max is a member of the pack who has always had a fascination with Abbie, no one knows why but when he came of age and she wasn’t his mate he went mental. I thought he had gotten over her as he found his mate the other week, but clearly I was wrong. I rush forward towards Max and Abbie, not bothering to look around or for any dangers. “How dare you?!” I shout at Max, pulling him off of Abbie and throwing him against the opposite wall. He connects with the wall with a resounding c***k and falls unconscious to the floor. I hear footsteps retreating up the stairs and I realise that someone had been hiding in the corner, but my focus had been and still is on getting Abbie out of here and to the hospital. I look down and see that Abbie has lost consciousness, her chest is moving but barely. I cannot believe that this has happened to her, I thought what I had done was terrible but this is so much worse. To torture a pack member is treason in itself without a trial and conviction first. I look down at Abbie and I am horrified by what I see, her arm is clearly the main focus and the cause of the burning flesh smell. Parts of it have been brunt almost to the bone from the looks of it, she is going to require immediate medical attention or she may lose the use of her arm. I then look over her a bit more and see that Max had managed to incapacitate her with the chains and must have pulled her at some point as her neck is red and starting to bruise. Anger fills my body; I know I have no right to be angry but still. This is not right. I want to go over to Max and beat the living daylights out of him, but my priority at the moment is Abbie and getting her medical help. I undo the chains and remove them slowly off of her. They were only put on her to stop her from doing anything stupid like banging her head against the bars and killing herself. Not the best move on my part but it was all I could think of when I found her trying to kill herself two days ago in the cell. I panicked and grabbed the nearest thing, never once thinking that they would be used to hurt her. I unwind the chain from around her two wrists, which had been used to hold her in place wile Max did his assault on her. I can only hope that I got to her before he was able to take his assault too far. I sniff the air and I look down quickly and back up, there is no blood near her legs so hopefully that means her innocence has not been violated. I take of my shirt and wrap it around her waist, hoping to protect so of her modesty. I wrap my jacket around her top half. It looks huge on her and I oddly feel comfortable with her in my clothes, even my wolf calms down a little at the sight of her smelling of us. But he still wants to wring Max’s neck. I pick Abbie up and my wolf whimpers, both me and my wolf confused by the feeling of pain filling our chests. As of today, this must stop and I have to stop Abbie being treated like this. No matter what we have been told no one deserves to be treated this way. “I promise to protect you. From this day forward I will stay away from you and keep you as safe as I can. That is a promise.” I whisper in Abbie’s hair, my wolf growling in agreement. I cannot nullify the contract until one of us turns of age, but when I find it I will do exactly that. I exit the cell and close the cell door behind me, locking it and taking the set of keys with me. To make sure that Max will not be going anywhere I kill the fire and close the interior dungeon door, locking it and taking the set of keys hidden behind it with me. This way no one will be able to get to him like he did Abbie. I carry Abbie out of the dungeons and to the hospital, the extent of her injuries clear for all to see. From the horrified looks on passing pack members face it is clear that we, as a pack, have gone too far. We arrive at the hospital and there is a flurry of activity around us, after all their soon to be alpha has just walked in carrying a girl and both covered in blood. “What happened?” The doctor asks as soon as he sees her. The nurses stopping in shock at the sight. “Max and someone else tortured her and then…” I say, stopping myself as I cannot finish that sentence. “And then what? Luke, we need to know to be able to do our jobs.” The doctor demands. “I saw him mid thrust, I do not know if anything has been done or if I got there in time.” I whisper. The nurses gasp behind the doctor. “Oh dear goddess no.” One of them says, tears falling from her eyes. “Follow me, we must treat her now.” The doctor says, ordering me to follow him. He does not have to tell me twice. We all run through the corridor and to a room in the alpha quarters, I refuse to put her anywhere else. As soon as I lay her down on the bed, I mind ink two warriors to come here and stand guard, whoever was in the cell with Max and Abbie is a pack member. Unfortunately for me the smell of burnt flesh was overpowering every other scent so I do not know who the other person is, but I have my suspicions. But with two guards here Abbie will be protected until I can find out who the accomplice was. As the doctor and nurses work on treating the wounds, I take her hand and whisper four words. Four words that I hope she hears, four words that I will try my hardest to honor. Four words that my wolf and I say together, as one. “We will protect you.”
