Chapter 24
Norfolk, VA
MICKEY WAS HAPPY to walk away from the closing with a sizeable check drawn on the lawyer’s trust account. He went straight to his bank to deposit the check, and while he was there, he stopped by his old office to say good-bye to his former coworkers and subordinates. Chris settled down in a comfortable chair in the waiting room while Mickey made his rounds. Eventually, Mickey returned to where Chris was sitting.
“Ready to hit the road?”
“Just as soon as I use the facilities.”
“Down the hall, first on the left.”
“Thanks.”
Mickey made small talk with the receptionist while he waited. Chris finally walked back into the room and said, “I’m ready when you are.”
“Let’s go, then.”
As they left Norfolk behind them and headed across country on secondary roads to I-95
