Chapter 4

"Emma, do you know Ambler?" I always felt he wasn't a simple person. "His Excellency Ambler!" Emma gasped, covering her mouth in surprise. "Oh my, almost everyone on this continent knows him. He's one of the few magisters here, and you know how rare magisters are these days, almost god-like. Especially Master Ambler, the greatest of them all. Though he rarely attends royal events, he's helped many people, earning their respect." I nodded, slightly astonished. The greatest magister would be teaching me—unbelievable. I wonder how my father managed to invite him; Ambler's stature exceeds even my father's. "Emma, are there different ranks among magicians?" "Magicians are categorized as: apprentice mage, novice mage, intermediate mage, advanced mage, magister, and archmagister. So far, no one has reached the archmagister level; it's every magician's aspiration." I hadn't realized Emma, usually so casual, was so knowledgeable about magic. Clearly, my understanding of this continent is lacking. "By the way," I said, making a fist and lightly tapping my open hand. Emma immediately looked at me with curiosity. "How old is Ambler?" "Huh?" Emma looked perplexed. "I thought you had something important to say, Miss?" "Hehe." I propped my head on my hand. "Just curious. Ambler's beard must be quite long." I gestured with my hand and looked at Emma expectantly. "Come on, Miss, don't look at me like that, I feel embarrassed," Emma said, covering her face with her hands, giving me a shiver. "Master Ambler is over three hundred years old," Emma said with a respectful tone. "Over three hundred years!" I widened my eyes. Is he even human? "Miss, don't you know that studying magic can extend one's lifespan?" Emma patiently explained. "Ordinary people live to about two hundred years, healthy ones even longer. Those who study martial arts and magic can live much longer, slowing down aging." I was amazed. If that's the case, I'll have plenty of time to spend. It's quite good to live that long. "Enough talk, I'm off to study magic," I waved at Emma and walked out on my own. "Miss, good luck with your magic studies!" I heard Emma's voice outside, and my mouth curved slightly. Magic is indeed something to look forward to. "Miss, please follow me." A servant bowed, extending his left hand to guide me forward. Before long, we stopped at the door of a room. "Miss, here we are. Master Ambler is inside," the servant whispered before stepping back. I nervously pushed open the door. "Teacher Ambler, I'm here." I walked in, finding a spacious basement-like room. Ambler was standing facing the door. Upon seeing me, he smiled kindly. "Lisa, you've come." "Yes, I'm here." I curtsied, standing respectfully aside. "To learn magic, we must first see if you have the aptitude for it. Let's see if you can study magic," Ambler said, drawing a virtual circle with his hand and pulling out a crystal ball from it. "How should I proceed, Teacher Ambler?" I asked, somewhat worried. I hope this body is capable of learning magic; otherwise, I'll be at a loss. "Lisa, place your hand on the crystal ball. First, let's test if your body is suitable for magical training." Ambler's voice relaxed me inexplicably. I spread my hand over the crystal ball. "Good, now close your eyes and merge your body and mind, relax." I loosened my body and mind gradually. Soon, I felt a warm current flowing through my limbs, finally gathering in my hand. Opening my eyes, I looked at the crystal ball; it emitted a faint blue light, exquisitely beautiful. "It's of the water element," Ambler smiled approvingly. "Alright, you can put your hand down now." I was about to withdraw my hand when the crystal ball emitted a soft green light. "Wait, don't move," Ambler said immediately. "It seems you're not just of the water element, but also the wind element." After a while, Ambler stared at the crystal ball in astonishment. It then emitted a burning red light, a warm yellow light, and finally, even a layer of white light with a peripheral black light hidden underneath. "Goodness! How is this possible? A mage of all six elements! Oh my!" Ambler was completely different from his usual composure. He muttered to himself, his hand that was originally touching his beard stiffened in place. His eyes, however, burned as he stared at me. "Oh, Lisa, you truly are a genius. You are a mage of all six elements! Such a mage has never appeared on the continent before." "That's something only people in legends are said to be—masters of all six elements of magic. Ha-ha, I've taken on such a fine apprentice! I must show those old folks that I have a disciple who's a master of all six elements!" I watched as Ambler excitedly pulled me along, exclaiming non-stop and dancing about. I was a bit dumbfounded. Is this the dignified, respectable mage I've seen? Clearly, he seems like a mad old man. I'm starting to wonder if his previous demeanor was all an act. It appears the world has been deceived by his appearance! "Um..." I couldn't stand the so-called great mage chattering beside me any longer. "Professor Ambler, are you going to teach me magic or not?" "Teach? Of course! You're my apprentice, after all," Ambler said, beaming brightly. I truly wondered if his face could sprout a flower. "Professor Ambler!" I'm sure my expression was not good at this moment. I lowered my head, restraining myself from punching him. In my mind, I desperately recalled noble etiquette and restrained myself. "Alright, look at our little princess, her face is not looking good at all. Let's start learning magic now." Ambler immediately changed to a different expression, once again becoming the awe-inspiring mage. I couldn't help but think, this man's ability to change his demeanor is extraordinary. No wonder countless people have been deceived by his appearance. I looked at him with some disdain. I never thought he was such a person. "Ha-ha, good apprentice, don't look at your master like that. You know, you're a treasure now. With such great talent, you can become even greater than me!" Ambler was in a great mood. He took out a small ring with a blue diamond and handed it to me. "This is a gift from me to you." "What am I supposed to do with this ring?" I looked at him with contempt. You see, in this duke's mansion, there are many diamonds in my room alone. What's the point of giving me this? "Silly girl, this ring is a spatial storage ring. It can hold a space as large as this duke's mansion inside. Such storage rings are rare to find outside." Ambler was a bit displeased that I looked down on his gesture, so he explained the usage to me again. However, the method was simple: touch what you want to put in, and think to take it out when you want it. I touched this ring, and it really is a treasure. According to Ambler, time inside this ring is frozen, so whatever I put in there won't deteriorate. It's really convenient. After thinking about it, I stared at Ambler with enthusiasm. "Professor Ambler, are you trying to send me away with just one gift? Considering that your good apprentice like me, shouldn't you give me more practical things?" He hesitated and looked at me with wandering eyes. "Um, Lisa, what do you want?" "A magic robe, a beautiful high-level magic robe." I think if a mage doesn't even have a robe, that would be too depressing. "Um..." Ambler's eyes were a bit evasive. "What, can't you even afford such a small gift?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "I don't have a suitable magic robe for you right now. Wait for a while, and I'll definitely get you one." Ambler's face turned red and white. I watched with relish, wondering if it was a wicked pleasure to see others change their faces like this. "Then don't forget!" I stared at him and nodded reluctantly. Ha-ha, I'm sorry to myself for not letting you give a bloodbath.
