"Professor Ambler, how can I begin to study magic?" Although I possess the constitution for learning magic, it is impossible to learn without any effort.
"This relies solely on you," Ambler's gaze settled calmly on me. "You must sense the magical elements around you. Some people spend their entire lives without ever feeling the presence of magical elements, and as a result, they never become mages."
"How can I begin to sense these magical elements?" Magic has always intrigued me, and I am determined not to give up.
"Mages sense magical elements through meditation. You need only to earnestly contemplate," Ambler paused, then continued cheerfully, "Even I, the greatest mage on this continent, took an entire day to sense the magical elements. I can say I have never met anyone who comprehends them faster than I do. Lisa, you can use these days to meditate and feel the magical elements surrounding us."
Watching Ambler's somewhat self-satisfied expression, I couldn't help feeling a bit unconvinced. A whole day just to sense them? I'll find a way to sense the magical elements in the shortest time possible and see how proud Ambler remains! "What should I do?"
"Just focus on sensing. The rest you must understand on your own."
Frowning, Ambler's words seemed almost redundant, confirming that success would depend entirely on my efforts. "May I meditate here?"
"This room was prepared specifically for your magic studies," Ambler smiled, settling into a mahogany chair nearby.
Discarding all thoughts of ladylike decorum, I sat down directly on the floor, deeply contemplating how to sense magical elements. Slowly relaxing my body, I felt mental waves gradually merging with the surroundings. I sensed new buds sprouting on trees, strange birds flying across the sky, and new flowers blooming in the garden. It seemed as though a beautiful painting was unfolding before my eyes. I could even feel the plants' breath, the free-spirited breeze, the flowing water, the leaping fire, and the vast and serene presence of the earth. Lost in my reverie, suddenly, different colored lights appeared before me, accompanied by voices in argument.
"Oh my, why are you all gathered here?" exclaimed the blue light in surprise.
"Aren't you here too? Why is everyone out in force this time?" complained the red light.
"It seems like a gathering this time. How long has it been since we've been together like this?" queried the green light.
"It's been tens of thousands of years," recalled the yellow light wistfully.
"Someone has summoned us this time," the gentle voice of the white light soothed the initial discord.
"Well, this gathering seems rather dull," remarked the black light, which had remained silent until then.
"Ah, little Black, why are you so indifferent!" exclaimed the other lights together, and I couldn't help but smile. It truly was amusing.
"Let's just go ask the person who summoned us," concluded the white light summarily, and the lights ceased their discussion.
"Oh, why did a little girl summon us?" exclaimed one of the lights.
"Indeed, it's quite remarkable!"
"Why did you summon us?"
I shook my head in confusion. "Actually, I'm not sure how I summoned you; I just sensed your presence."
"You can sense us?" The lights brightened simultaneously, causing my eyes to blur.
"Yes, I can feel your joy and sadness. You are inseparable entities, and I can sense the connection between you." I smiled at them, genuinely feeling their emotions—it seemed natural.
"Really? Goodness! Someone who understands us!" exclaimed the fiery red light, jumping excitedly.
"It seems you truly understand us," the white light softened further. "People think we are separate, but everything is interconnected. Although we can separate, our essence has never changed. There are no fixed boundaries; we are all one."
The other lights surrounded me. "Our power is yours. You are our acknowledged master."
"By the way, what are you?" I asked, tilting my head in puzzlement.
"What?" All the lights exclaimed in unison. "You don't even know what we are?"
"No," I nodded, wondering why they were so surprised. I really didn't know what they were.
"We are the Hearts of the Elements, the essence of the six great elements, the origins of all things. And you, our master, we acknowledge you." Suddenly, the Hearts of the Elements surged into my body, and I felt an overwhelming warmth.
"Hey, I don't want to be your master. Let's be friends."
After a moment, the Hearts of the Elements collectively replied, "Very well, let us be friends."
We played together, and as they departed, they said, "When you are in danger or in need, you can call upon us. You now possess the magic of the six elements; all you need to do is practice your magic well. We're leaving now, but hope to see you again, our friend."
I smiled as I opened my eyes. Outside the window, the sunlight of a bright afternoon greeted me. It seemed I hadn't spent much time after all.
"How did it go? Have you sensed the elements? It's only been two hours," Ambler asked eagerly.
Shaking my head, I replied quietly, "I haven't sensed the elements."
Ambler's expression was one of anticipated disappointment as he reassured me, "It's alright; you have plenty of time. You will sense the presence of magical elements."
I chuckled inwardly, slowly speaking up, "Although I haven't sensed the elements, I have sensed the Hearts of the Elements."
Ambler's expression turned from anticipated disappointment to one of shocked amazement. His eyes gleamed intensely. "What did you say?"
"I said I sensed the Hearts of the Elements, all six of them."
"Impossible! Only two hours, and you've sensed the six Hearts of the Elements. They've never appeared together before!" Ambler paced around the room, muttering to himself, "No, you must summon the elements for me to see."
I looked at him disdainfully. Did he not believe me? But then again, it was an incredible thing to believe.
"My friends, come out," I called out in my mind. Soon, six colored orbs of light gathered around me, shimmering and rotating incessantly.
"How about it? Do you believe me now?" I raised an eyebrow at Ambler, but he was already lost in awe. I snapped my fingers. "Alright, friends, return."
The six-colored orbs instantly disappeared, and Ambler snapped out of his reverie. However, he now looked at me with an unusually solemn expression.
"It seems she truly is..." Ambler murmured softly, and I didn't catch what he said.
"What did you say? Professor Ambler?"
"You won't need to meditate anymore to gain magical power. With the Hearts of the Elements, all magical energies in the environment are at your disposal. You just need to learn how to cast spells." Ambler handed me several books. "Here are some introductory spellbooks. Study them well, and I'll check in a few days to see if you've mastered the basic spells."
Having said that, without waiting for my response, he disappeared using spatial magic.
"Using a few books to dismiss me and slipping away with spatial magic. Whatever, I'll also learn spatial magic in the future, so I can go wherever I want." With this thought in mind, I happily carried the books back to my room. Today's gains were plentiful, even though Ambler hadn't taught me much, I could still master magic through my own efforts. Besides, I now possessed the Hearts of the Elements—it seemed they were rare to come by, yet I acquired all six at once. If others found out, they would surely be envious. It seemed this was my secret, and I found it hard to believe.
Whatever the case, it's time to rest; today has been eventful.
