Chapter 6

In these recent days, I have immersed myself deeply in the study, at least those beginner magic spells from those few introductory magic books have become thoroughly familiar to me. I have always believed that practice is the best teacher, hence I've been casting spells almost every moment. Initially, my lack of control over magic led to many things being inadvertently destroyed. I can only say that after losing so much, I have now become adept at controlling my magic. And now, Ambler will be evaluating my magic. I am confident in myself, but the incantations for these spells are quite bothersome. For someone like me who dislikes such inconveniences, it's remarkable that I've managed to memorize such lengthy incantations. Even I am impressed by myself. I walked confidently into my dedicated magic room; Ambler was already inside waiting for me. "Master Ambler," knowing his true nature, I no longer needed to feign respect or courtesy towards him. "Lissa, how far along are you in casting magic?" Ambler sat casually at the table, sipping his coffee. "In that case, please have a look, Master." I uttered the incantation, and a small fireball shot from my fingertip towards him. Ambler simply raised his hand lightly, and the fireball vanished as if it hit an invisible barrier. I looked dejectedly at him; it's truly disheartening. The gap between him and me is still too vast. "Not bad," Ambler nodded approvingly. "Your control and delivery of magic are quite commendable." I looked at him gloomily, "Master, when will I be able to learn more advanced magic?" Ambler ruffled my hair gently, "Don't be too eager. Master the basic magic first, then move on to others." I shook my head dismissively. Being treated like a child and taken advantage of occasionally is quite frustrating. I looked at Ambler helplessly, "Master, do I have to recite such long incantations every time I cast a spell? It seems like you can cast magic very quickly." "That's instantaneous magic, you only need to speak the name of the spell you wish to cast." Ambler looked at me somewhat slyly, "Once you have obtained the Heart of Elements or become proficient enough in magic, you can cast instantaneous magic." "Why didn't you tell me earlier!" I was thoroughly irritated. If that's the case, I memorized all those lengthy incantations from those thick beginner magic books for nothing! "Well, little Lissa, you never asked me that question before!" Ambler's smile now was undeniably mischievous. See, that's his true nature. I cursed him silently in my heart, feeling indignant. "In that case, I'll try if I can cast an instant spell." I recited, "Frozen Wasteland!" A basic water elemental spell was cast, freezing the table next to Ambler. I must admit, the effect was quite good. "Your talent is unique," Ambler praised, running his hand lightly across the table. The ice evaporated into vapor immediately, and the table returned to its original state. "Of course," I smiled nonchalantly. In my previous life, despite being an orphan, I managed to succeed in my career through sheer effort. In this life, I already possess exceptional conditions, so I am naturally confident in myself. "You indeed have such confidence," Ambler patted my head, "Next, I will personally teach you intermediate magic. Magic is divided into many aspects, and with your talent, you can excel in every one of them. Here, light magic primarily consists of healing spells, which everyone likes. However, few know light magic; it's mainly used by temples, priests, or clerics. Dark magic, on the other hand, is considered taboo due to its destructive power, so dark apprentices are generally frowned upon. There are also many other types of magic, such as spatial magic. Which one do you wish to learn?" I pondered with my head tilted. Finally, I decided, "Master Ambler, I want to learn them all, so..." I chuckled inwardly, "Master, please bring out all the magic books." "Are you sure you want to learn all of them?" Ambler looked uncertainly at me, but I nodded firmly. "Alright," Ambler took out several luxurious magic books from a storage ring, "You must take good care of these. There are some forbidden spells in them that you must not attempt. With your abilities, it won't be long before you become an outstanding mage." I carefully stored the books using the ring, realizing that I still had much to learn. "I'll come to ask you about the magic I don't understand. Goodbye, Master Ambler." This time, I behaved like a lady, bid farewell, and left. Once I got what I wanted, I didn't need to argue with him anymore. Even though I'm only ten years old now, my parents seem to trust me a lot, which touches me deeply and makes me want to learn more. Because I know that in this world, power is everything; only power can protect those I want to protect. I have tasted the bitterness of loss, so in this life, I want to grasp the happiness I have. The following days were fulfilling; I practiced yoga every morning, studied etiquette and dance at noon, studied magic in the afternoon, and meditated before bed. Unknowingly, two years passed, and I finally turned twelve. Rumors about me outside Duke's Manor had become increasingly exaggerated, and Emma would tell me about the news outside every time she went out. "Miss, do you know?" Although Emma is seventeen years old, she is still lively, "People outside are saying that the Sleeping Beauty Miss of the Duke's Manor is extraordinarily talented, elegant, noble, and beautiful. She's seen as a mysterious goddess in everyone's hearts!" "Who's been spreading such nonsense to you again?" I playfully tapped her nose. For someone her age, she's still so innocent and naive. "Miss, they're not wrong. You really are like a goddess." Emma looked at me adoringly. "Alright, let's not talk about it. Is there anything fun happening today?" Being cooped up in the Duke's Manor all day is unbearable for me. "Yes, Miss, let me tell you, today's market is bustling!" Emma's face lit up with excitement. "Then let's sneak out and have some fun." I blinked expectantly at Emma. "Miss," Emma hesitated, "The Duke and Duchess will find out." "It's fine." I waved my hand dismissively, "We'll go and take a look, then come back early." So, I sneaked out with Emma through the back door, listening to Emma gossip along the way and buying some impractical trinkets. In short, it felt much more relaxed and comfortable. It seems that the life of a noble lady isn't quite suitable for me. Of course, since we were at the market, I couldn't pass up on the snacks. Although the cooks at the Duke's Manor are first-rate, I still miss the Eastern cuisine after having too much Western food. There were many types of snacks at the market, and Emma and I ate to our heart's content. I patted my stomach, sighing contentedly. If only I could play outside all the time, that would be great. After being a child for two years, I now feel quite immature. Emma and I played around, an eighteen-year-old girl and me, a twelve-year-old girl, extravagantly spending money naturally attracted the attention of some people who had ulterior motives. When Emma and I deliberately walked to a secluded place, I dealt with those pests effortlessly. I couldn't help but touch my face; could it be that there are many pedophiles here? Otherwise, why do those people look at me with such lecherous eyes? I smoothed out the wrinkles on my dress and continued to wander with Emma. "It seems that a few new beauties have arrived; let's go take a look." A greasy-faced man pulled another rather creepy-looking person along. "Yeah, those are some good-looking goods. Let's not let anyone snatch them away." The other person nodded. The two of them hurried off. "Emma, what's going on up ahead?" I was curious as I watched the crowd surging ahead. "Miss," Emma's answer was hesitant, "There's a slave market up ahead." "A slave market?" "It's a place specifically for selling slaves." I nodded. I didn't expect there to be slaves in this world. It seems that imperialism is wicked indeed, but it's not something I can control. The entire continent is imperial, so having slaves isn't surprising, but I am curious about what kind of slaves there are. After all, I was born in a society where there are no slaves.
