Kave nodded and then looked down at me. “Karrie and Helen will take care of you. Ask them if you need anything.” He pulled me in for a quick kiss before leaving.
I slowly made my way back to the dining room and joined the other two ladies in clearing the table and putting away the leftovers. The meal had been so pleasant, and I regretted how abruptly it had ended, weighed down by such a somber note. I had never truly thought about how busy my father was as Alpha, but now I was beginning to see another side of that responsibility. Maybe Helen was right—Kave might need to set up “office hours.” Not that I was sure how much time I wanted to spend with him, but still, we needed to figure out what kind of relationship we were going to build.
