The Prophecy

“I am-WHAT?!” I winced when I felt someone slapped me again and I grumbled under my breath, seeing my mother frowning at my attitude. I rubbed my arm and rolled my eyes. Seeing how my family was part of this, gave me a harder time to take it all in. “You are the prophecy..” “First! Who is talking into my mind?! I feel violated...” I raised the question to my parents who shake their head and gently put their hands out to the direction of Mer. Mer, on the other hand, was frowning and glaring at me. I couldn’t blame on it for being frustrated with me and my attitude but seriously? “She will get used to it,” My father spoke to Mer who calmed down and stepped back to the corner. “Secondly.. what prophecy?!” I asked, staring at my parents. My mother met my father’s eyes and gave a look. I frowned at the exchange taking place in front of me. My father sighed and stepped towards me, before putting out his outstretched hand in front of me. I took it and gently got off the bed, my mum walking behind us. I turned to see Mer shimmered into the wall and gasped. “He does that,” my father simply commented, “He can shimmer in and out of this area,” “Geez, thanks Pa,” I scoffed which earned another slap from my mother, “Ow!” We got back out into the same corridor and I walked with my parents until we reach a door. The door was made out of dark wood, which I’m guessing was made out of old trees which can be found in our region. He opened the door and lead us in, finding ourselves surrounded in walls of shelves full of books. I blinked and looked at the extensive collection, seeing books which I have never seen or heard before. My fingers brushed across some of the bookspines before I felt my mother’s hand behind my back to hurry along. We found ourselves in a wider open space where there was glass panels lined up in front of us. My dad stood at one which looked like an old parchment or... a leaf. I finally got a better view as I came closer, seeing how well the leaf have been perserved. It was nothing of those which I have studied or known before, going through the limited knowledge I had learned about plants so far from my studies. “Hold up, is this-“ “This was the first thing that tells us of what we are destined to be and will become,” my father said, standing in front of it, “It’s written in a language none of us understand-“ “Pa,” I stopped him there, “What do you mean?” “It’s an unknown language, my dear,” My mother said as she stood by me. “What?” I turned and faced to the two of them before pointing at the inscriptions on the leaf. “Then why does it have my name on it?!” * * * * * “So you’re saying-“ “That she possess the knowledge of forgotten languages,” Mer simply said. My father was pacing to and fro in front of me, who had settled at the corner where the sofa was at. Mer was summoned, coming with some snacks and drinks, to my delight. I was chewing on the muah chee, a chinese gelatinous snack. My mother was watching my father worriedly, and was unsure of what’s to come. I just stared at the two of them who had worries shown all over their faces and body language. Mer was watching them quietly, his tail twitching slightly. I wondered what’s it like to be half a fish, staring at the tail which slapped itself on the floor, making me jumped at the loud noise and looked at Mer who smirked cheekily in my direction. I scowled at him and looked away. “Isn’t this part of the prophecy?” My mother broke the silence, “Let’s tell her more..” “But I need to figure out-“ “Pa, please,” I put my plate down and wipe my lips, “Tell me everything now than keeping it all later,” My father met my eyes and looked at the other two pairs of eyes before dropping his face to the ground. He gave a long exasperated sigh before he nodded and went to the shelves before disappearing. A while later he came out with parchments, all bounded by a rope. He removed it and lay it all down, showing what’s on the parchments. When I finally took a good look, I blinked and took a step back. The inscriptions were in a language that no one knew. However when I came up to it for the second time after taking a breather, I realised it was a language which I knew of. At the back of my head, it felt like something had unlocked and unwinded itself. I stepped back once again only to grab the nearest thing to hold on to..and I found myself grabbing a fistful of hair. I looked up and saw Mer was standing behind me and supporting me. I blinked at the close proximity, feeling its soft fur on my skin and I felt myself leaning closer before taking a deep breath in and looking at the parchment again. This time round, it was clearer and precise. I didn’t realise I was reading out loud when my parents were watching me intently. “The prophecy states the first lady in the line will be the most strongest and powerful lady that roam this earth.” “She will not only possess many powers and talents but of a key which will connect the remaining individuals to roam and protect this Earth,” “With power comes with the constant danger which she will face, alone and as a team, that will threaten to rid of her existence. She must gather the remaining others before it comes to surface,” “It?” I asked in between reading the inscriptions and looking at my parents and then at Mer, “What is It?” “Something more powerful and evil that wish to plaque this world of humanity and its existence,” my father gritted his teeth, “It was something that my grandmother used to say and it tends to show itself every few centuries.” “Few centuries?” I blinked, “Is there anything that will let us know what it might be,” “Very little information we have as of now,” my father let out a tiring sigh, “I’ve been trying to find the others who are fated for this matter but I always met with a dead end,” “You did your best, my love,” my mother said as she placed a hand on his shoulder. I couldn’t help but smile at them both before continuing the prophecy. “At daylight they comes, and they will never leave. Their quest to search the jewels and the crown will continue to prove nothing but difficulty. There must comes a time when all the jewels and crown are reunited and to be place on the head of the chosen one,” “Chosen one?” I stopped and looked at them, who simply gave me a look, “Wait...me?!” “Finish the prophecy,” my father simply said and I pouted and faced the script. “The balance will be restored to the world as the chosen one bears the crown and jewels. They will roam the Earth together and in generations to come, Earth will slowly come to peace again,” I stopped and stared at the torn piece and looked at my parents and Mer. “Whats-?” “The prophecy is only completed once we find the rest,” my father said, “Until then, we don’t know what is ‘it’ we are facing, what is going to happen after the crown is on you,” “Right,” I leaned against one of the chairs, “Now what?” My mother stepped up and touched my father’s shoulder, “Now... that you are on a break, let’s focus on doing some...training,” “Training?” “Obviously..” said Mer who rolled it eyes at me, “Is she so shallow?” “Hey!” I stomped my foot on the ground and glared at Mer. “And some bonding,” my father simply said as he shook his head at our direction, “Let’s meet the rest first,” “The rest?” I raised an eyebrow as my father gently reached for me and lead me out of the room.
