You know you are regretting your existence when you find your own n*****s attractive. Now, I don’t mean that all the n*****s out there are...umm...not much for the look. She-wolves and the kind may strongly disagree and come biting me on the ass. I am talking about me, the alpha.
Because right now, I am wishing for the world to end at the very right moment, in a blink. I want a pleasing painless death—like a cardiac arrest in a spa while having a relaxing massage. Or I can die while having an earth-shattering o****m. Either way is fine for me.
Anything is welcomed. From a flirtish earthquake to some seducing flood. Soul-warming thunderstrike or a crazy typhoon—whatever sail the boat is pleasant. I only want to get away from the family melodrama as early and far away as possible.
‘Scarlet! My baby! We missed you so much…how have you been? Oh, my poor honey!’ Some twenty minutes back, we heard a middle-aged she-wolf approaching us while erupting in loud shrills. Her cheeks were tainted with an endless supply of tears as she sobbed her way inside the Mansion.
Her resembling features do not keep it a mystery that she is Scarlet’s mother. Only she is much louder and more expressive than Scarlet can ever be.
‘These bastards!’ She hiccups, pointing at us. ‘Look at my pup’s state! These monsters.’
The open cursing makes me a little uncomfortable. I open my mouth to complain when I observe Ronit’s s**t-scared face.
His eyes are wide open, his mouth, his nostrils are flared and his lip quivers, and ears had turned red. Almost instantly, my perception of the she-wolf changed completely. She isn’t unbearably offensive anymore. On anything, I find myself slightly enjoying her presence.
‘Welcome to paradise, Lady.’ I mumbled.
Besides me, Ronit’s expression is a sight to behold. He almost jumps out of his skin and becomes a stool in the corner which is used by the cleaning staff. The file we were going through slips off his palms and pools at our feet.
He clasps his hands above his hips. For me, he looks like a student in the Dean’s office—waiting for the authorities to sign his punishment.
‘She is her mother, you know.’ I pointed out the obvious, earning a glare from the alpha wolf. I stifle a laugh that threatens to erupt from my belly. Nevertheless, I keep a straight face when Ronit chickens behind me.
The she-wolf shirks another round with unfathomable cusses as she comes running to engulf Scarlet in her arms. We awkwardly shuffle at the back, giving her the escape. It’s more for reflexes than they need.
I was sure she wouldn’t mind slapping us out of her way if need be. From my peripheral vision, I can see Aary’s silhouette, running down the stairs. She stands beside Tarifa and Avika across the sitting area. Curiosity was written all over her face. Omega Lixin stands a couple of paces away from us, freshly showered and dressed.
Kevin growls at the sight.
‘Scarlet,’ Mumma-Devil cries in Scarlet’s neck.
The staff has stopped functioning in anticipation. Eager eyes and hitched breaths wait for the drama to unfold.
Vivan, who was sitting beside us on the waiting chair is up on his feet and in action in no time. Shantanu mimics his actions and takes a complete look at the people hurrying toward us. He keenly observes the lady cladded in a blue and white saree, weeping her eyes out.
‘You cannot jump on the Luna directly.’ Vivan clears his throat awkwardly. ‘We have to inspect you, Ma’am. Please come with me-’ Before he could complete his sentence, a thunderous slap silences him.
‘You *hiccup* pathetic *hiccup* shit.’ Momma she-wolf fumed, pushing Scarlet behind her.
Another slap. ‘I am *hiccup* meeting *sob* my daughter *hiccup* *cough* after four years.’ She wipes her tears from the back of her hand. Vivan and Shantanu take threatened steps back.
I can only vividly understand Ronit’s intimidating expression. Surely, the she-wolf is a walking fire. He might have taken her wrath before. I remember we’d locked her in a room before taking Scarlet with us. She could not escape from the basement and was rendered helpless.
