N| The Rationale Behind

'She is always calm, no matter what.' I pointed one finger, drawing a circle in the air. I don’t know why but I nod. I know it doesn’t matter when she cannot see me but I nod. 'Yeah, she always has this sullen expression...like this.' I imagine her pouting her lips, casting her eyes downwards, and shallowing her cheeks in a somewhat scared gesture just like Scarlet does. ‘It's her default installation I think.’ Avika agrees. ‘Still, it does not explain anything. It doesn't certify her as an enchantress. Had she been one, why would she tolerate Ronit's dominance?' The escort from Twaivada points out, earning a great deal of respect from me. I like her boldness for slapping facts at my mate’s face. She is rational and right. Way to Avika. I am with you! ‘That's my second point. She is under disguise. She pretends to be weak, to stay outside of the radar. She cannot come out uncovered. It will be a direct threat. I am sure she doesn't want that. The she-wolf is absurdly quiet and mysterious. She barely talks, laughs, or expresses her emotions. It's almost unnatural considering Ronit tortures her so much.’ Aary nails the coffin and I want to jump in and point out how she is so wrong here. Ronit does not torture Scarlet. He loves her. He might be stiff, possessive and overbearing sometimes but he does not torture or mistreat his mate unless his wolf has taken over. My brother is a great soul who is often rendered helpless at front of his wolf. Scarlet is very innocent and does not understand it yet. She has formed an opinion and wouldn’t budge but I have seen Ronit weeping for her. He used to pathetic. ‘Alpha, what are you doing here? At this time?’ A deep voice makes me jump out of my skin. I blink back to reality and stare at the Omega, who I presume is out on waiting duty. He greets me politely. I try to smile as if I am seeing a long-lost friend after an eternity, but I am not sure it's convincing enough for the omega grimace. Later, he quickly masks it. Too late! I have seen it. His slanted eyes widen in various shades until he settles on what he has been looking for. ‘I don’t think I am answerable to you on any occasion.’ I replied, hating the hoarseness in my voice. I cough a little to compress it and straighten it up. ‘Of course!’ He bows, ducking his head timidly. The delight on his face would make any she-wolf's day any minute, only I would never be fortunate enough to be the subject of it. And why do I want to be the subject of it? It's uncertain...just like my identity. ‘This,’ he pointed at the milk carton. ‘What is it?’ I whispered. ‘For Luna.’ He mumbles under his breath. I study him for a good minute before snatching it from his hands. He is way too fragile for the position. His nervous energy is acceptable, considering he is eying me as his Alpha and not a husband who has slapped his mate but there is something concealed in his almond shaped eyes too. ‘I will give it to her. You can retire to your lodgings.’ I speak without averting my eyes away from him. I want to unmask his emotions. Why is he so cold towards me when it could be potentially the third time, I am seeing him? Shantanu had brought him to me when our warriors had rescued them from the war chamber. He wasn’t ill-treated or on the verge of dying. In fact, he did not need to be rescued. They were merely detained and kept. Fairies do not object when wolves mistakenly or knowingly invade. They give them shelter. It’s mostly the witches and serpents who were against us. Post war, the serpents do not embark as much threat, but witches and vampires are still a major concern. Mostly trafficking concern. Lixin was the fortunate hostage amongst fairies. No one knows how he ended up there after his graduation. Yet he somehow did. He is the gardener's relative—nephew? I don’t remember. I only remember the part where Shantanu persistently wanted to keep him in the Mansion at Luna’s service since he did not have faith in Luna’s assigned PA. For some reasons, I could not agree to disagree—and that was the end of it. ‘You may retire. I will be with her. You don’t need to guard.’ I nod at him. Lixin stares. An intense emotion passes through his eyes. It was anger if I am not mistaken. He lingers for three seconds before he hesitatingly nods and bows. I watch his back as he retires. The carton feels warm underneath. With a shrug, I finally knock on the door and clear my throat. Enough of the enchantress tail, I guess.
