*** Alpha Derek’s POV ***
As soon as I stepped outside I quickly and deeply inhaled the scent of the cold breeze. I need to get her scent out of my system before I do anything reckless and stupid like go back in there and take her with me without even asking.
I started walking towards the forest, prepping myself to shift as soon as I reach those trees. A good run is much needed, I had to let out all this energy somehow.
‘Alpha,’ Josh interrupted my thoughts mind-linking me. ‘That guy is back and he is talking to her again.’
Damn it!
‘She does not look happy about it,’ Josh then added.
Control yourself Derek. She is just a human.
I kept telling myself as I heard my wolf growl. He did not like how I was handling this. He wanted me to go back inside, kick that mutt’s ass and get our mate. But I was not going to listen to him. I was not going to let a human gain control over my heart, my packs, my everything. No. She cannot be my Luna.
‘I think he’s a werewolf. Wait, he’s a rogue. I can smell it on him,’ Josh confirmed.
A rogue? F*ck me.
I did not waste any other second. I couldn’t. I turned and ran back towards the bar. That hypocrite does not know what’s coming for him.
*** Natalia’s POV ***
“Don’t you dare!” I exclaimed giving him the angriest, most strict glare I could possibly give as he tried to place his hands on me and I pulled away. I have never felt this uncomfortable around him. I met Brian in college, in one of my classes. He sat next to me and we talked a little and that was it.
Ever since then, he has been trying to flirt and go out with me but I have done nothing but reject him. I never liked him, he always made me feel sick whenever he was around.
This time was the worst. He was truly appalling and I was not sure if it’s because of his breath smelling like gin or because of the disgusting way he looked at me.
“This needs to stop!” I added frowning, and making a mental note to go to the police and file a restraining order against him first thing in the morning. But he wouldn’t take no for an answer, he tried to grab me by the waist again. I knew this time was different. I felt it, something bad was going to happen.
“Leave her alone you sick bastard!” Lindsey almost shouted but no one could hear, the music was too loud and everyone was busy either getting drunk or dancing.
I tried to pull his hands away but I couldn’t. Not this time. His grip was too firm and he was not planning on letting go of me soon. This sent shivers of disgust down my spine.
“You will come outside with me and I promise I will show you a good time,” he whispered as I felt his grip tighten on my waist. I wanted to throw up, I started looking around for anyone that might hear me when I scream and just as I was about to do just that, the bar’s door was kicked open. Like very brutally kicked open to the point where the DJ stopped the music and silence suddenly roamed the place.
A seemingly tall figure appeared. He seemed to scan the place for a few seconds before I could literally feel his eyes resting on me. He started walking towards us revealing more of his very well-built muscular figure. By that moment, I realized Brian’s grip was no longer there and I couldn’t be more grateful for this intervention.
“YOU!” The attractive man shouted giving Brian a deathly glare as he approached him. He seemed extremely angry and I was not surprised. Brian must have gotten himself into some serious trouble tonight given his current drunken state.
“Never. TOUCH. What. Is. Not. yours!” He aggressively stated emphasizing each word as he gripped Brian by the neck and lifted him off the floor with just one hand. I could hear the gasps of people coming from all corners of the bar. Everyone had stopped whatever they were doing and were just staring at the scene in front of them.
“Never. Even. LOOK. At. What. Is. Not. YOURS!” he then said getting angrier by the second. That Brian must have done some very awful things to piss him off like that. Next thing you know, Brian is thrown across the room towards the entrance door where his back hit the wall, knocking him out.
I look at Lindsey and notice how scared she was while I couldn’t help but wonder how someone could so easily throw another human body across the room using just one arm. This man radiated power, and it was indeed scary.
“Get him,” the man then said as another muscular person seemed to react to the order grabbing the unconscious Brian and following that man outside the bar.
“Uhh… what just happened?” Lindsey looked at me with rounded eyes as soon as the 2 men walked out and the music beats started to pick up again. “Did you just see that?” she asked as I simply nodded. I was just as shocked as she was.
“Whoever that guy is, he is scary as hell!” she exclaimed and I couldn’t agree more. “But I can’t help but officially declare him as your guardian angel,” she added reminding me of the god-awful scene that was happening just before this man walked in.
“I should have thanked him,” I stated thinking out loud. “He did basically just save me from having to experience something very horrible,” I added looking at Lindsey. The man was scary, yes. But I had this feeling inside of me that I just had to run after him and thank him. He did not do it for me. He doesn’t even know me. But I had to express my gratitude. I just had to and I didn’t even know why
I couldn’t really understand my own feelings at the moment, I just knew I had to run after him.
***Alpha Derek’s POV ***
We walk out of the bar with that rogue b*stard hanging from one of Josh’s shoulders. I need to head back to the pack and decide what to do with him.
That f*cking cunt, I am going to kill him. He dares and touches my mate. MY mate!
No, no. I shake my head trying to get my thoughts straight. She can’t be my mate. There is no way I would make her my mate or my Luna I reminded myself hearing my wolf growl in disapproval. I just reacted earlier like any other person would knowing that someone was in danger. I just helped a random stranger, I convinced myself. I will head back to the packhouse and forget everything that happened tonight. I will no longer think of her and I will soon enough find someone else to replace her.
As we were on our way towards the woods, I suddenly freeze in place as I smelled her scent getting closer. She’s outside and must be heading towards us.
“Hey…” I heard her sweet voice then say as I kept walking.
F*ck.
Please don’t follow me.
“Excuse me…” she yelled from behind us, her footsteps running in our direction.
‘Alpha,’ Josh interrupted mind-linking me. ‘Just keep going,’ he advised knowing I was having an internal battle about whether or not I should face her. He was probably right, the more I interact with her, the more likely I am to get hooked and I did not want that.
‘I can’t,’ I finally surrendered. ‘I can’t ignore her,’ I stopped and waited for her to reach us, promising myself to make it quick and free of any type of emotion.
“Hi!” She said ever so sweetly as I noticed how she was trying to catch her breath.
Goddess she is so beautiful.
*** Natalia’s POV ***
I finally caught up with him and the second he turned to face me I could not deny the butterflies in my stomach as I stared into his green eyes. What was I doing running after a stranger like that, I must be out of my mind!
“I just wanted to thank you,” I blurted out trying to sound as confident as I normally am. I just wasn’t so sure of myself at this particular moment.
“What for?” he asked so seriously.
Okay. This could end up just being a bad idea after all. But since I have already started my mess, I might as well get to the end of it.
“For saving me from that guy,” I explained pointing towards Brian. “He was behaving very inappropriately with me and it could have ended dreadfully if you hadn’t come in and interrupted his acts.” I noticed his green eyes get darker. Is that even possible? He seemed angry again and I hope I did not say anything wrong.
“So, thank you,” I concluded reminding him of why I was there in the first place. He just looked at me and I could somehow see it in his eyes, so many thoughts were rushing through his mind.
“I’m Natalia by the way,” I add offering my hand for him to shake and I swear he left me hanging for a good 10 seconds. He actually hesitated whether or not to shake my hand. Following them was definitely a bad idea, what was I thinking.
“Derek,” he then said taking my hand.
I smile, being my genuinely nice self. Just then I could see his tensed-up face relax, the look in his eyes changed from anger to… emotional. He did not let go of my hand for a few seconds. The longest hand shake I ever had. He then turned it so my palm was facing the ground while he just held it running his thumb on the back of my hand.
It is odd how I did not find this gesture as weird but actually liked it. I normally would have been disgusted by such act coming from a stranger. But not him. He did not ‘feel’ like a stranger to me and that is something I have never felt before. That marguerita must have really started to mess with my brain. I need to cut down on drinking, I made a mental note to myself.
“I have to go now,” he interrupted my thoughts his hand finally letting go of mine to find its way to my cheek. He caressed it and I could not understand how an arm that looked so strong can be so gentle and soft on my face.
I notice his eyes never left mine the whole time and that just made my knees get weak.
What is wrong with you Natalia, get it together! I reminded myself.
“Alright,” I nodded snapping myself out of the stance I was in. “I have to head back in as well,” I smiled turning to leave.
