Pain was the first thing Hailey became aware of. Her head felt like it was splitting open from the pressure inside, while at the same time, it felt as if it were in a vise being squeezed. Something was on her face and head that she desperately wanted to rip off, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t do it. She didn’t understand what was happening. Her body wouldn’t respond. She couldn’t move, and it was making her panic.
She could feel herself being moved and placed on what felt like a bed. Hailey became aware of voices around her. They sounded excited as a beeping started sounding wherever she was.
