Twenty years ago, the Bloodmoon clan abandoned the wilderness they once ruled. They had lived peacefully alongside another werewolf clan, hidden far from the human world. But peace doesn’t last forever—not for werewolves.
The enemy clan’s jealousy finally struck, and in the chaos that followed, Alpha Alexander Knight lost more than anyone could imagine.
The pregnant mother carrying his destined mate met with a terrible accident. The baby—his newborn mate—died before she even opened her eyes to him. The woman survived, but only physically. Her mind broke beyond repair.
Ten-year-old Alexander buried his dead mate with his own trembling hands.
Unable to watch his son drown in grief, Alpha King Knight moved the entire Bloodmoon clan to New York City. New identities. New rules. New lives among humans. They masked their scents, hid their fangs, and buried centuries of their true nature beneath carefully crafted smiles.
But secrets never stay buried.
Even in the city, the enemy clan continued their schemes—bribing, manipulating, sending spies. And one night, an omega from the Bloodmoon clan—blinded by greed—sold internal information to the enemies...
.
.
Twenty years had passed since the Bloodmoon clan left their homeland and stepped into the human world. They blended in, masked their fangs, hid their scents, and carried a secret no human could ever imagine.
But the reason behind their move remained buried—known only to the clan’s elders and Alpha King Knight.
The truth would surface soon.
Just not today.
Today, something else was boiling.
A traitor.
An omega from our clan had been bribed by the enemy. He leaked inside information—something that put my people, my family, and my kingdom at risk. Rage simmered inside me, crawling beneath my skin like fire.
I ordered Marco to drag that rat to the back building’s chemistry lab. Marco, broad and tattooed, hauled the omega easily, his hand gripping the man’s collar as if he weighed nothing.
The moment I stepped inside the lab, everything changed.
A scent—sweet, warm, impossibly soothing—hit me so hard I froze.
It wasn’t human perfume.
It wasn’t chemicals.
It was… intoxicating.
My wolf reacted instantly.
Find her.
Claim her.
Ours.
I forced my wolf down with sheer willpower. No human should affect me. No one had ever affected me—except the mate I lost twenty years ago. The mate I buried with my own hands when I was ten years old.
I ignored the ache twisting inside my chest and walked calmly to the table, folding my sleeves up until my tattoos showed. I could feel her eyes on me from somewhere close.
Marco shoved the omega to his knees in front of me.
“How dare an omega like you betray me?” I snarled.
“I’m sorry, Alpha—please, spare me!” he begged.
I struck him, splitting his already busted lip. Blood dripped onto the floor.
But even with all this…
Her scent cut through everything—persistent, distracting.
My eyes drifted to a slightly open cabinet.
So that’s where she was hiding.
I pretended to inspect the lab, stepping away… then reached the cabinet silently and swung it open in one swift move.
A girl tumbled out, landing painfully on her elbow with a soft gasp.
Though I didn’t know her name yet.
Marco reacted immediately, grabbing a fistful of her hair.
“What the hell are you doing here, little b***h?”
She cried out as pain shot across her scalp.
Before he could yank again, she raked her nails down his tattooed arm with surprising force—so strong that blood welled up beneath the scratches. Marco let her go with a hiss of pain.
“You b***h!”
She didn’t freeze.
She kicked him in the groin.
Hard.
Marco dropped to the floor with a growl. She kicked him again when he tried to get up.
Interesting.
This little human had claws.
Before she could land another strike, I grabbed her from behind, pinning her wrists with one hand and pressing my other hand lightly around her neck.
She stiffened.
Her scent hit me again.
My wolf lunged forward.
Mine.
Mine.
Mine.
No.
Impossible.
I lowered my lips to her ear. “Stop struggling if you don’t want to die, little girl.”
She instantly froze. I felt her heart pounding against my arm, her breath trembling.
Then a tear slid down her cheek and hit my hand.
For the first time in years, something inside me twisted painfully.
Why the hell was I affected?
Why did her scent feel like warmth spreading through my veins?
Why did her tears feel like claws scraping across my chest?
“What’s your name?” I asked, but my voice was lower, rougher than intended.
She hesitated, trembling. “M-my name is Angel.”
I almost smirked. “Angel what?”
She lowered her eyes. “Evangeline. Evangeline Smith.”
Evangeline.
The name echoed inside me, fitting too perfectly. I felt my wolf perk up—alert, curious, hungry.
I tightened my grip. “Now tell me what you’re doing here, Evangeline.”
“I wasn’t following you,” she cried. “I study in the front college. Seven girls—Ashley and her minions—were bullying me today… I ran here to hide. I thought they were coming, so I hid in the cabinet.”
“And the words you heard?” I demanded.
“Alpha… beta… gamma… omega,” she whispered.
“What do you think that meant?”
“Maths… and science?” she offered weakly.
I almost laughed. Almost.
Her long lashes trembled when she looked at me. The innocence in her eyes didn’t match the fierce girl who kicked Marco like a warrior.
“What about him?” I pointed at Marco, still cursing on the floor.
“He’s an asshole,” she muttered quickly.
Bold. Stupid. Somehow… adorable.
“Why does Ashley bully you?” I asked.
“Because I’m poor. I study on scholarship…”
Her voice softened, drifting away as she got lost in her thoughts.
I tightened my grip on her neck.
“Don’t ignore me, little girl.”
She gasped. “I—I’m sorry… please let go.”
But I didn’t. Not fully.
Because holding her felt… right.
Wrong.
Dangerous.
Addictive.
Everything at once.
“You fought Marco. You scratched him. You kicked him. You expect me to believe you’re innocent?” I growled.
She sobbed harder. “He hurt me first… I’m telling the truth… please let me go. I won’t ever appear in front of you again…”
Her tears flowed faster.
Her scent wrapped around me stronger.
My wolf howled inside me.
This girl…
This fragile, fierce, trembling human…
She was going to be trouble.
“Now,” I whispered against her ear, letting a slow smirk curl on my lips,
“get ready for your real punishment, Evangeline.”
She shivered in my arms.
And for the first time in twenty years…
I wasn’t sure who was more affected—her…or me.
